Ranger Tater Nuts, having PAES and compartment syndrome isn't just painful, it literally becomes impossible to run. Your lower legs aren't getting any blow flow because of the trapped artery, and your shin muscle is too big for the layer of skin surrounding it, meaning that there is a ridiculous ...

Update

Rangers,
I have Paliteal Artery Entrapment Syndrome, where my calf muscles are compressing the paliteal artery. I will be getting it fixed with surgery in the coming months. I also developed anterior compartment syndrome since, probably related to the PAES, and had that corrected with surgery in ...

I am now being told that I will have to go to AIT, but that I am not considered prior service unless I have spent 6 months on Active Duty, which is in direct contrast to the sticky posted in this forum. He also said that I could negotiate for an opt 40 even if I was prior service, which is also in ...

Reserves

My recruiter told me I can be in the reserves during college for all four years without ever going to AIT. Is this true, and if so, when I go active after college, can I be an 11X since I will have already completed Basic and 11X AIT is OSUT? I would technically be going through Basic twice.

SFC hit_it, I haven't wasted anyone's slot...I haven't talked to the recruiter yet. Just wondering if I should wait for awhile before signing up, or if I can sign up but delay leaving.

Extra Time

OK, I've searched for this and nothing is coming up. I have just decided to enlist with an op 40, and I need a lot of time to get ready. When I talk to my recruiter, will he/she be able to delay me leaving until this fall if I request it, or will they be obligated to ship me this summer? I would ...

Ranger xray, I am 18, and I definitely intend to get married into the future. And you are right, there is nothing wrong with supporting a family as enlisted, they will just be more secure if I am an officer...and please do not get me wrong, that is DEFINITELY not my motivation, I am just weighing ...

Ranger PaperStreet 2/75 thanks for the advice. Definitely some thought-provoking words. And money is definitely not my motivater, I am just weighing the pros/cons of officer vs enlisted. This is tough shit.

Thanks for the advice Ranger Ranger Why, I'll probably do the green-to-gold program before I get up that high though, to get a commision.

Ranger Buddha, I REALLy appreciate your advice. I am definitely leaning towards enlisting now. I might just apply for the green-to-gold program after being a soldier for awhile. Thanks again.

Ranger The Holmchicken, my post was not intended to gain any sympathy, and I certainly did not mean to whine. I would just like to know whether it is likely that as an infantry officer i will be able to stay in the field for most of my career.
