As America celebrates 250 years of freedom, here’s a look at a few of the various United States flags flown during combat by soldiers, sailors, Marines and militia during the American Revolutionary War. 

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Robert Eugene Bush earned the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary heroism during the Battle of Okinawa, where he simultaneously defended a wounded Marine and administered life-saving plasma despite his own severe injuries.
