Readout of Deputy Secretary of Defense Dr. Kathleen Hicks’ Meeting With U.K. Permanent Under Secretary for the Ministry of Defence David Williams at the U.S.-UK Defense Dialogue

Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Christopher Grady hosted the biannual U.S.-UK Defense Dialogue with their UK counterparts, Permanent Secretary David Williams and Vice Chief of the Defence Staff Lieutenant General Gwyn Jenkins, yesterday at the Pentagon. 
 
The leaders, along with experts from their respective staffs, discussed strategic approaches to defense industrial base resilience, technology and capability advantage, wargaming development, and climate resiliency.

The allies identified opportunities for collaboration and synchronization between the U.S. National Defense Industrial Strategy and the UK’s Defence and Security Industrial Strategy. The two sides also discussed the progress made on the U.S.-UK Joint Climate Action Plan geared towards increasing climate resiliency and mitigating impacts to defense operations.

The U.S.-UK Defense Dialogue is a biannual meeting between U.S. and UK leaders established to focus high-level attention on strategic and acquisition issues, as well as technical innovation. 
 
Today’s event is the fifth defense dialogue between Deputy Secretary Hicks and UK Permanent Secretary Williams. The last U.S.-UK defense dialogue was held in London on November 29, 2023. 
 
All leaders committed to deepening the U.S.-UK special relationship and continuing progress toward addressing shared areas of concern for both the Department of Defense and the UK Ministry of Defence. Both sides reflected on the upcoming D-Day anniversary and looked forward to the 75th NATO Summit in July.
