I haven't posted much in the year I've been reading these forums. I have always believed that when faced with an opportunity to learn something it's better to keep your mouth shut and listen.
However, the other day I read something in a magazine and instantly felt as though I should post it here to share with Rangers and fellow DEPS.
A guy named Brad Alsop decided to run a marathon on the 4th of July to raise money and show support for American Troops overseas. While a marathon is no small feat, running one does not necessarily make a person stand out to the general public. So rather than running just one he decided to run 26.2 miles every day from then until Veterans Day.
That is 26.2 miles every day for 131 days.
I searched around on google and came up with an article: http://www.wave3.com/Global/story.asp?S=7349671
Brand ran 55 marathons when temperatures were above 91 degrees; the mercury soared to 99 during 13 of his runs.
Brad raised over $18,000 for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, and now that all the marathons are complete, he hopes people will continue to donate.
"We was coming up the hill there," said Brad's friend, Bill Boettger. "And he was in so much pain, he finally come to a stop, and I thought he was going to vomit, that's how much pain he was in. And I said, 'man, let me call an ambulance.'"
I read this article and was in awe of Alsop's determination. A lot of running programs recommend going out every other day with a long run once a week. This guy ran a marathon every single day for 131 days simply because he felt the need to show support for American Troops.
I just wanted to put this out in the open, it is a great source of inspiration.
