Montana also has a condition that they can succeed from the Union if their 2nd Amendment rights are violated on a Federal level. Somewhere there is a recent letter sent to the editor of the Washington Times by the Montana Attorney General.
That would be symbolic alone. Montana does not have a large enough population nor a diversified enough economy to live outside the union. It, un like Texas, does not have things that the US needs and that can become a major value export.
Historically every single state has the ability to leave the Union. This was taught just about everywhere, to include West Point, until 1860. To date there have been three different secession threats, once from South Carolina, and the other two from New England states, and one actual secession by eleven Southern states, that led to the bloodiest war in our nation's history.
No one state has a monopoly on the ability to secede.
Didn't know that.
Still doesn't change the fact that unless multiple states secede to create an alliance of some sort, most states don't have the assets to stand by themselves. They don't have a diversified enough economies for self support.

It also goes with the will to secede. I honestly don't think you could get the American public that fired up about much of anything, as long as it doesn't interfere with the next American Idol.
Most of us are shaking our heads right now over the recent vote to become a socialist country, more like France than Soviet. Try selling the idea of leaving the United States to any large body of people, and you would get that "nuttier than a fruitcake" look from them.

I grew up in the Northeast and am very happy south of the Mason Dixon. I think middle Tennessee is awesome, but I'll admit I live in a pretty unique community. I've never lived in Texas but I like a lot of what it stands for, and I like Texans for the most part.
By the way, do you know the link between Texas and Tennesee? Sam Houston. The only person to have served as governer of 2 states (TN and TX). One of the reasons Houston had to leave Tennessee was because he beat a Congressman from Ohio with a cane on Pennsylvania Ave. He was arrested and was found guilty in civil court. Rather than pay the fine, he ran to Texas.

Don't think I am gonna like cold as I age :)
Been to Iowa once. I went to a WWII reunion with a buddy in Chicago, and was kidnapped by two German girls. I woke up in Iowa. There were miles and miles of corn. Nothing but corn. Flat as Kansas, and corn everywhere.

Positives of NC.
Beautiful state
Good weather.
Beaches, mountains, and plenty of lakes.
Cost of living is low, housing pretty affordable.
BIG gun state.
Plenty of conservatives.
Not crowded.
Negatives.
EVERYONE else has figured the above out.
Too many Yankees moving here and wanted it to be like NYC, Boston, etc. See above.
Humidity in the summer (you get used to it-not as bad as Texas).
NC also has an incredible education system if you have offspring. In state tuition is unbelievably low for university, and they rank very well for Government Schools.
NC here too. Great VA hospital in Durham with a bunch of smoking hot Duke Interns running around all haughty and shit :)
I live near Chapel Hell, so I'm 3 hours from the coast, and 3 hours from the mountains. My daughter goes to App State and it's a blast to go up there! Lots of mountain stuff to do. I really don't care for the beach, after about 4 hours I'm bored.
If you have family on the right coast, its pretty convenient.
