Hey Bugsy, Why did you have to throw that 10th MTN comment in there? William O'Darby went on to be their ADCO in Italy..That's the unit he died with..About Mogadishu..10th MTN assisted B3/75 get out of the AO. I kinda of took it personally...but I'm sure I'll get over it......someday....in the near future.....maybe next year.

10th Mountain is (or was I guess now that they've been deactivated) a good unit, but they weren't SOCOM. I went to Ranger School with one of the 1st guys from 10th to get a Ranger School Slot after they had gotten reactivated and he was good to go, so I'm not takin a shot at 10th by any means Ranger. Speaking only of SOCOM Units is all.
As for
YOU chadrob30 I got a story for you about guys from COHORT and using that "I can't get out bullshit as an excuse" as to why they never got a chance at Airborne School or a Ranger Assignment. (btw I knew you would have one......"excuse" that is)
I was in Hounsfield, Germany doin MOUT Training and I met a guy who was in a COHORT Unit who one day walked up to me and said he wanted to be a Ranger but was in a COHORT Unit...... he wasn't a very big guy, but I watched him during the obstacle course team challenge match and I could see first hand that he was a hard charger and gave it all he had each and every time. I told him that if he ever got out of his COHORT Unit to look me up.
One day I'm back at Regiment and the CQ says there is somebody who is askin for me.............. His name sounded like BurrrlaneGah but that not his real name for OPSEC reasons. Anyway they directed him to our office and we recognized each other immediately, he through constant requests, went up the chain of command (he wouldn't take no for an answer, though he told me they kept saying no, no, no) but eventually he was able to get himself an Airborne School slot, and was in Airborne School when he stopped by Regiment. I introduced him to my NCOIC, he asked me if I thought he would make it and I said he was damn good troop.
Long story short was that we got him into RIP, he failed his 1st road march test because he had blisters the size of silver dollars on the heal of his foot, but got a chance to retake it. The RIP Cadre called me and told me and I went down there to see him, after he took his boots off and showed me his blisters (I was like wholly shit) but I told him he had to make the road march or he wasn't going to get in. He told me he was sorry he failed the 1st one but that he wouldn't let me down.
That motherfucker got up the next day and completed the road march without sniveling, and made good time to boot,
WITH BLISTERS ON BOTH FEET THAT WOULD HAVE MADE THE AVERAGE MAN BEG FOR CRUTCHES JUST TO WALK!!!
It ain't about shoulda, coulda or anything else. IT’S ABOUT THE SPIRIT OF A MANS HEART AND THE DETERMINATION OF HIS MIND!!! That man wanted to be a Ranger and he wasn't going to let anybody tell him he couldn't, he never took no for an answer, and he never stopped at anything until he became one!!!
HE TOO WAS FROM A COHORT UNIT and this was in the days when the Army first came up with the COHORT concept (which means they were even more unwilling to allow anybody to leave). But his drive and determination convinced his chain of command to give him the shot and he made it.
So as I said earlier, don't waste our time nor yours by giving a bunch of excuses as to why you never got your shot at Airborne School, Ranger School. We know that if in fact you really wanted it bad enough, you would have figured out how to make it happen.
