Conflicted Information
I have read the "read first" section and understand the information contained in it. However, I have recently spoken with a recruiter and received different info. Specifically, about eyesight and the Opt 40. I told the recruiter what I read on this site but he insists I can get a waiver for my eyesight and get Opt. 40. Also stated he doesn't think it's called Opt. 40 but Opt. 3 or something like that. Any opinion on the subject?

I am assuming I would need a waiver as my vision is in the 20/200 range uncorrected and from reading other posts about vision I gathered my vision was poor by Army standards. I do have correct color perception and my peripheral vision is average as well. I currently wear contacts and my vision is corrected to 20/20. I appreciate the response to the Opt. 40 issue as well SFC Hit It.

SFC Hit_it,
I was worrying about this same eyesight information. I secured an option 40 with 20/25 correctable distant vision. I thought it was some mistake that gave me that contract without 20/20 correctable vision but my recruiters could never give me a straight answer back how I pulled that off, which made me feel even more nervous that it would come back to bite me in the ass when I went to basic processing or something. It really made me mad that the lady working the machine kept saying, “how do you work this thing?â€
