My name is Pvt Elkins...stuck in the national guard:( tryin to get a discharge so i can go active but the fuckers wont let me go. The national guard sucks..I am a private E1 nobody and im having to show seargents who have been in the military longer than ive been around how to setup field tents. And i havent even been to basic or ait yet..they are dicking me around on my ship date..i didtn make wieght by 1.05% the first time so they sent me back for two weeks..Well they rescheduled me to ship on a holiday so they had to reschedule for this week but cpl fucktard whos supposed to be gettin my paperwork done so i can ship droped the ball so now im not gonna ship till the 22nd which is overa month after my original date. My recruiter got discharged for testing hot for drugs...he seemed like a real standup guy...was 82nd airborne..went to grenada in 84 had his jumpwings for bein a jumpmaster..was a drill seargent and the #1 national guard recruiter in Texas...I made my sn a lil soon i guess...i registerd b4 i actually read the board any...my fuckup...uhh go guard?

Stop getting in a hurry. Be patient and keep pushing it. You don't need to drop out of NG. Just put in for active duty. Then pick what ya want if it's possible.

Patience. The hurry up and wait in the military will drive most men up a wall.

Best thing I ever heard was a E6 Platoon sergeant in the 1st/75th. Every time we'd go from one side of the drop zone to the other then back again he'd say "Be cool and maintain men. Follow me." Always grinning like he didn't give a shit. Hell they pay ya whether yer waiting or doing pushups.

RangerBell ive already put in to go active duty and they wont let me> i even went to the Master Seargent of Retention in the State of Texas and they said no. And ive been contemplating Ranger school for a LONG time now. I have the mentality taht if im going to do something im going to be the best at it. National guard is not the way to go, especailly since i want to go to Ranger school

no im not prior service...i joined the guard back in december..right after i quit college. i havent gone to basic yet so they wont give me my discharge yet.

i was in the gaurd for 9 months before i switched to active....
Thankfully they made it easy and signed the release papers.... My active duty recruiter said if worst came to worst I could have just NOT shipped for the Gaurd boot camp, and then joined active!
