New Devil Dog onboard

Post by Dylinger44 »

Some of you might remember me, I'm home from Marine bootcamp a little meaner and leaner. I have 10 days leave, than 7 days recruiters assistance, than it's off to school of infantry to learn how to make things go boom. I'v only officially been a Marine for 3 days but love it already. I can't wait to get out in the fleet. Any questions let me know.

Welcome aboard (again) and congratulations.

Any idea what ship you'll be assigned to, or if you'll be in the Pacific or Atlantic Fleet?

Avoid 3rd Marines if you can. :D 2/3 was fun, but you dont want to be stationed in Hawaii and see the island every 3 months. My advice, get Lejeune, Wilmington is only like 30-60 minutes away depending on your driving. And Myrtle isnt that far out either. Getting on a MEU used to be fun, but not anymore MEU = Iraq or Afghan.

Good luck in the fleet, you didnt get suckered into any of the Yankee programs did you?

Just a side note for the above, the Yankee programs are not opsec.

Yea I'm Uniform Whiskey - Infantry with 2 years Security Forces, and regret the hell out of it. I asked anyone who would listen if I can drop it and just be straight infantry, no luck. A 1stSgt at the SOI brief told us that we can expect to be assigned to "deploying units". But that doesnt apply to me because I will probably be guarding nuclear submarine bases in the CONUS. If I had my way, I would be deploying with my grunt buddies from bootcamp.

Edited to add- One of my DI's was with 2/3, he was one bad mother fucker. He got NJP'd before the crucible for "abusing" recruits (bullshit).

Devil Dog, uh? Think I dated her Sister.
Congratulations Marine. Actually, most of us like Jarheads far more than even Army Infantry, certainly more than SF, Squids, Squeeks, SEALS, Frogs, Squirts, Pleebs, ect....

I'm not the way I am because I was a Ranger - I was a Ranger because of the way I am.

A select few from 2nd batt does not like Marines at all. Some Marines guarding Candyland, had some Rangers sleeping over and this Marine locked and loaded on a Ranger, and he was inside the perimeter. Of course I really wonder how much those blank rounds with a BFD on them would have done.

Dylinger, as for your situation in Security Forces, take it, learn everything you can. You are going to get alot more high speed training there than you would with a normal grunt unit. After training is a different story, but in todays world everything you learn can be used. Don't forget you could be guarding subs in Pearl Harbor.

My cousin's son did the exactly same thing. Last year he was guarding subs in Bremerton, right now he is pulling convoy security in Iraq. Good luck to you.
