Introduction - Jake

Post by GrndsonofaGrtMan »

Hello Rangers,

My name is Jake, I'm 30 yrs old. I want to first say as a civilian I truly appreciate you allowing me to join your forum, it's an honor. As for my reasoning for wanting to join, my grandfather was a Ranger in WWII. He served in the 3rd battalion and fought and was captured at Cisterna. He was held at Stalag 3B near Fuerstenberg for a year and a half before he was finally able to escape. I stumbled across this forum while researching information about my grandfather's service and just wanted a chance to be a part of this community as he has been such a large part of my life and being a Ranger was such a large part of his life. Like I said I'm just a civvie and have never had the honor to serve in the military in any way, mostly I will just be looking around and absorbing as much knowledge as I can. The older I've gotten the more I am able to appreciate what my grandfather went through and the more I've wanted to know about his time serving. I've gotten to the point where I try to get as much solid knowledge about his time and the Rangers as a whole and have become somewhat of a groupie so it's nice to be invited into this community and given the chance to learn firsthand from some of the greatest men in history. I will keep this short and just end with a very heartfelt thanks for allowing me to join and please if you have any questions about my grandfather or me just ask, I'll offer anything I can. As you can imagine my grandfather did not talk much about his time in the war.

Welcome here.

I think if you go on the National Archive's web site, you can order your grandfather's entire military records file. Might be some pretty cool stuff in there and please share it if you do.
