Goons Introduction
Good morning,
My name is Chris, I am 34 years old , I EAS from the Marine Corps in 1995 after 5 years. MOS was Avionics field (precision measuring equiptment) I am currently a network administrator. I was with MALS-29 MCAS New River ,North Carolina, MALS-36 MCAS Futemna ,Okinawa and MAG-42 DetB Stewart ANG Base, Newburg, NY.
I am currently going through the process of enlisting in the Army. I know it may sound strange but I am trying to get an 11x Contract with option 40. I am working with a recruiter who is helping get things moving. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to being a member on the site and learning a lot more about Rangers and insight I can use to help me be more prepared for what lies ahead.
Thank you all for your time and knowledge,
Chris

Good luck Goon, several have tried to go the route you are, and none have been able to get the option 40. You may want to talk to Leatherneck about his adventures doing the same thing.
I never wore a cape, but I still have my dog tags.

Welcome, Goon and good luck. What lies ahead is a road of complex problems. We have had a few prior service try to get into the Rangers and failed. I guess the question of the hour would be....why would you attempt this when you could possibly reclassify in the Corp. and reach a similar objective without all of the red barbed wire? Similar being Infantry, Force Recon, ect....probably be an easier road to travel and you wont spend many months trying to suck blood out of a turnip.

I'm not the way I am because I was a Ranger - I was a Ranger because of the way I am.

Thank you for the welcome to the forum Rangers Slowpoke, Steadfast, Abell9 and all others whom have posted.
Ranger Slowpoke: Thank you! Good info on talking to Leatherneck. I have been reading everything I can on here for the past 3 days or so. I will hit him up with some questions.
Ranger Steadfast: This site is an amazing source of knowledge.
Ranger Abell9: You have actually just laid out what I had been trying to do up to this point. You not only read my mind but also my actions. I have been to the USMC recruiting office several times since my EAS trying to get info on going back in and changing my MOS. They will not let me out of the MOS. My Army recruiter is still not sure the Army will let me switch jobs. I actually have several former Marine co-workers who had tried similar moves and were also told no. Strange that they would rather loose Marine NCOs than change their MOS. What is strange is that I had no bad marks or anything against me in my records. Loved the MOS and Pro/Con marks were great. Hell even got promoted meritoriously. I understand their not wanting to waste the money they spent on our schools. I even told them I would give up my re-enlistment bonus when I got out if I could change. Odd situation. But I am not giving up. I will see this through. Strange that it is easier when you are not even in yet to get things than when you are active. I damn sure miss being part of a group though. There is nothing like it on the outside.
Hope I did not bore everyone with that. Thank you all for the welcome. I will now stfu and read more before asking repetitive questions. Lots of good intel on here.
