So long Jack Ryan

Post by RangerX »

Author Tom clancy has died

Never read anything outside the Jack Ryan universe, but that was enough to keep me occupied for a good part of the time I served....

I was under the impression he was not what you would call a beacon of healthy living. Still sucks though...

George RR Martin better hurry the hell up and finish the Song of Ice and Fire series (Game of Thrones). That fat little troll looks like some kind of -ism waiting to happen.

I was on Fort Bragg when he was working on "Airborne". He followed my Company on Operation Purple Nurple, or Dragon, or whatever the hell they called it. We got a footnote in his book, still have it somewhere here. His books were better than some of the other fiction books I've read.

I'm not stupid, I'm crazy...there is a difference.

Started reading his stuff in junior high. Best book: Without Remorse hands down. The only book he wrote that focused more on character development than technology. I still read Patriot Games from rime to time but that's because it reads like an 80's Action film.

Once I joined the Military his books began to seem very unrealistic. Like he never met Enlisted Soldiers just the specially selected protocol "Field Grade" types.

Always kept a copy of either No Remorse or Clear and Present Danger in my ruck. They were beat to hell but did the trick if you had an hour of down time before rack ops and didnt feel like horseplay with the boys.
