First, thank you for introducing yourself before posting your question. You have no idea how often people just come right in and plant their ass on the couch and start talking (sometimes demanding).

I see a couple of problems with using names from TFR to check veracity of this potential poser's story.

1) According to the time frame given for his service he was in BN over a decade after the event. Granted the events of that day are stuff of legend...but he wasn't claiming to be there at the time. I don't know about now but when I came to C CO 2/75 in 92 I was not required to memorize the dead from Urgent Fury or Just Cause which had happened 9 and 3 years before I arrived at BN. Granted those Operations were never written as a best selling book that was later made into a movie.

Which brings me to my next point.

2) Because of the movie there was a rash of posers who came out of the woodwork. A few of them have fairly intimate knowledge of the events of that day due to the "publicity" and can spin a pretty good yarn about it that requires time, tenacity and just plain patience to unravel.

Post his name and claims. Someone on here knows someone, who knows someone...

Do you have direct contact with this guy? If so, I have a few "color of the boathhouse" questions that you could ask him. The first one being the easiest; find out who his 1SG was during that time frame. That is easy enough to verify. The second being this; The medical section had a training center they would use on Ft. Benning. The plain-vanilla units did not have access to this. Ask him where is it located and who is it named after? If he was a medic anywhere near 3/75 he would know the answer to this question in his sleep. It is named after someone who is mentioned in hushed, reverent tones.. an absolutely legit BTDT legend in the Ranger medical community whom had badass-ity to a level that few will ever know. If he was a medic in 3/75, he would have learned this gentleman's name and had it seared into his muscle-memory through countless push-ups. This would be the gold standard for vetting a 3/75 medic post 9/11.

If this cat is legit, I'll be the first one to buy him drinks. The men who served in 3rd Batt-indeed, in the entire Regiment-during that time frame have seen some of the toughest combat. They have earned their place in Valhalla by taking the fight to the enemy again and again. I know of a Navy SEAL who worked with them during that time frame and said they were some of the most battle hardened troops he had ever seen, and were not to be trifled with..

However.. that being said, my gut instinct is that if it looks like a turd, and smells like a turd..

I asked one of our PLT Docs that I served with in B Co, 3/75 during that time, and he has never heard of him. And I agree with asking him those questions next time you see him. Watch either his confidence, or utter failure and excuses with his replies.

ttaylor1974 wrote:Mike11C11B , Thanks again and I will make sure to ask those questions pointedly when I see this guy. I stated before that I had asked a buddy that was in B Co. the same time you were, and he said that maybe but the name didn't sound familiar? Thanks for doing some checking for me. Sure wish I had someone who actually was there during the time period to walk up to this guy and call his B.S. and to see the reaction on his face. It'll be priceless regardless..
Invite him here. Posers love attention, which is why they do it in the first place. Tell him the site is full of airsoft Rangers and that we need more medics to play. See if he bites.
