Re- Introduction

Post by Bronco »

I feel like I didn't have the best introduction/explaining why I want to become an Army Ranger in the 75th Regiment, so I'm going to restate my reasoning. First of all, I want to serve my country because it's something I aspire to do. I rather be given the opportunity to attend RASP and serve in the 75th Regiment than being the richest man in the world. Not only that, but I don't want to join the Army and serve with a bunch of guys who just went into the Army because they didn't want to attend college or didn't know what to do with their life. I want to serve with the best guys America's military has to offer and protect this great nation. In addition, I don't want to become a Ranger because I think I will become the coolest guy around, I want to be apart of something larger than myself. No I'm not some teenager who plays Call of Duty and says man, I really want to join the military because of this game, I know Call of Duty is nothing like it!

I also wanted to say something about what I have been doing to prepare for RASP. Lately I have been lifting weights 5 times a week, I noticed a big difference in my strength in just 2 months. However, the amount of push ups and pull ups I could do was still awful. Even though the weights weren't helping my push ups too much I still kept lifting because I was tired of being some skinny looking weakling(I'm about 6 ft tall and only weigh about 140). I finally figured out that if I'm not even close to getting 80 push ups in 2 min. than I'm just setting myself up for failure. I'M TIRED OF TELLING MYSELF THAT I WANT TO BECOME A RANGER IN THE 75TH REGIMENT AND THEN TELLING MYSELF I HAVE PLENTY OF TIME BECAUSE I DON'T! I'm tired of going through the motions when I workout and telling myself when I don't workout that I have plenty of time to prepare. That's not how Rangers think or live their life, and I need to do the same and live/memorize the Ranger Creed.

I am going to change the things I have been doing. Tomorrow I'm going on my first ruck march and instead of lifting weights I'm going to focus more on push ups, pull ups, and my core(flutterkicks). I plan on using p90x too. I'm also going to contact my local recruiter tomorrow for the first time and tell them what I want, and hopefully start the process of obtaining an 11x option 40 contract.

Should I post my pt results every 2-4 weeks?

You already have one introduction, explain to me why you're posting a second one, in the Mosh Pit of all places, instead of updating your original introduction in the proper area?

Don't let a sudden surge of motivation and desire cloud the way you think or act, especially around these men. The site rules and SOP's are not a suggestion.

I'm not putting you down here bud, we all want to see you succeed and meet your goals, America needs more Rangers, but everything you do along this path will be watched and evaluated and judged, even here, where you should be learning attention to detail and working very hard on your PT standards.

Have you read Dick Couches book "Sua Sponte-The Forging of a Modern American Ranger" yet? If you haven't, that is your next task, find it immediately and study it.

It's an outstanding book that provides you an excellent view of what to expect, and things to prepare for in RASP1.

Lastly, please learn to separate your paragraphs when posting here. I'm no teacher but I do know from experience that when I see one long ass-ed jumbled post it gives me a headache trying to read it and I generally skip over it completely as not worth my time.

You want to gain knowledge from the decades of experienced Rangers on the site? Then give them something well thought out that they can read and comprehend, not some crap that they will look at for a moment and say "I'm not reading that shit, there's no effort shown on his part, why should I bother with him."

Start polishing yourself now bud, believe it or not, you're already starting down the path, it doesn't start tomorrow, or next Friday, it starts right now, here.

Every step you take in life is forever, you can never take them back. Think about that.

I've enjoyed our conversation over coffee this morning, now go beat your face.

Ranger cams, I wanted post a second introduction because I felt like my first one didn't really show the former/current Rangers why I really wanted to be one. My first introduction was basically a little about myself and I didn't exactly say why I wanted to become a Ranger.

I decided to put it under the Mosh Pit because I felt like it was both an introduction and a little bit about physical training, so since it was a blend between the two, I felt like I couldn't put it in either of the two, so I just put it in the Mosh Pit section. Now that I think about it I realize I should have put it under the Introduction section. I will go back and edit the spacing between each paragraph in my original post.

Also, I have not read the book "Sua Sponte- The Forging of a Modern American Ranger" so I will go read it immediately.

Thank you for the advice you have given me Ranger cams, I really appreciate.

Roger. I'll accept that answer, at least you had a reason. May not be a great reason, but you had a choice to make, you thought it out, and made it. That's good.

Read the book. ASAP. And in between every 5 pages of reading, knock out a complete set of push-ups, read 5 more then do a set of flutter-kicks, then a set of sit-ups, and repeat.

It'll motivate and advise you at the same time.

Good luck. Carry on.

There is no way you can go back and edit your original post. You do not have the ability to edit an intro, even your own.

Leave this one here as a learning experience for yourself. Years later, you'll read this and say (possibly), My thinking has changed since then.

Ranger cams, I finally got the book and can't thank you enough for telling me about it because I probably would have never read it/heard about it if you didn't. I haven't finished the book, but I plan on finishing it soon. I had to order the book off of Amazon and paid more for shipping than the cost of the actual book. It may sound stupid, but I didn't want to a week for it to finally come.

Roger that. It's an outstanding book that covers the process from start to finish and should be required reading for every DEP here. It will pay for itself in spades with the overview it provides.

Get at it. And do twice as much PT as you're doing now.
