Hello,
My name is John. I am 18 years old and currently residing near Washington D.C. I graduated from highschool a semester early this past January, and I've been accepted on an Army ROTC scholarship to Auburn University. I played basketball for one year my Junior year of highschool. However my main sport is Taekwondo. I have practiced Taekwondo for eight years and loved every minute of it. I'm currently a second degree black belt, and Lord willing, I'll pass my test and get my third degree before shipping off this Fall.
I have always wanted to join the Army. My dad is active Army. I have 4-5 cousins who have all gone to Ranger School. Plus numerous other family members who have served in different branches and capacities. It's in my blood. I have always wanted to go special forces. That is my goal and it will happen. Otherwise, it means that I must of broken a femur every time I went through training. These are just words and I wonder how I will truly react when finally faced with the choice of "throw in the towel" or dig in and fight it out. I hope to graduate from ROTC and get a slot for 75th as soon as possible. I know that you have to be the best. I plan on being the best.
Currently my PT is a tricky affair as I have a lot to balance on my plate. That is an excuse but an honest one. I am approximately 6"2, 170 pounds, (This data is old and I will submit a revision this weekend when I go to the scales) I can crank out 72 push-ups in a minute (Proper form certified by a Marine Colonel) I haven't done a proper PT test in a while. Sit ups are 88 in two minutes (Certified by the same Colonel) and my run is 14:03 (This is what I'm working the hardest on) I welcome any advice, and yes I am currently reading every single post I can find on this website regarding training and physical fitness. I also welcome any wisdom that you gentlemen could impart to someone who hopes to one day lead Rangers.
Thank you for your time, thank you for your service, God bless.

Re: Introduction- John
Rangers,
I have researched this question and haven't seen anything on the forums. If I am mistaken and it is there, please just tell me and I'll continue searching.I plan on obtaining a commission via ROTC. After that, I plan on becoming a ranger by any needs necessary. I understand that officers eventually make it to a desk job, some sooner than others, but I feel like I want to stay with the men and continue to serve in that capacity. I have heard from a SEAL that some SF guys will be officers, get a desk job, get out of the military, and then enlist to go back into the field. My question is this. Does this work? What do you suggest? I am definitely going to be an office as I know that is where I belong. Thank you for any answers, please let me know if I have missed this question in the forums so that I can do my own legwork.

I just did a search on ROTC & came up with 2227 hits, so maybe 5 of them are yours? You are telling me you read at least 1/2 of these hits? say 1113 and no one in all our years ever asked you(r) question(s)?
Seems to me you are thinking way too far in advance in your head and should be 1st attempting to get good grades & max your pt before you worry about anything beyond that for now.

Roger that Ranger Steadfast. I used different terms in my searches so my results were a lot smaller. I understand your point though, in the future I'll be general and spend more time searching before posting.
Understood on the advice. Focus on the work at hand so I'm in the best position to become a ranger down the road.
Thanks Ranger Steadfast.
