Question about Ranger Regiment Enlistment

Post by mab1111 »

Dear Army Rangers,
I have read posts on the topic of enlistment in the regiment, and have learned a great deal. I am in my senior year of high school, and want to join the ROTC in college. I spoke with an ROTC officer, who said that I will have to serve 3 years in the army before going to RASP. Is this information accurate?

Thank You very much for your service

Dear Ranger KW Driver,
The ROTC officer told me that after ROTC, I get my commission, and then serve as a commissioned officer for 3 years. I do want to go to college before the Army. ROTC scholarships are ways to help me pay for college, although, my ultimate goal is to become an Army Ranger.

Thanks for the quick reply

I understand you're being polite, but I'm not your dear anything. "Ranger ______" is fine.

as an officer, getting to the Regt is difficult for several reasons, or impossible, based on what branch you commission into. I know the assesion process into the Regt has been addressed here. you should be able to find it if you search it. timelines are somewhat flexible, but also narrow. and things seem to have changed since I was there.

that being said, it's a pretty distant target for you at this point. getting into a good school, and getting a scholarship is a closer target for you. getting the grades you need to get there, should be your immediate target.

Will do. Should If I can get Army ROTC scholarship, do I have to get commisioned as an officer, or can I just do ROTC, and fulfill the 6-8 year contract as an NCO

what do you think ROTC is for? if you take a scholorship, what are the requirements for that? what are the obligations incured with that?

these are questions for you to find answers to. it's pretty simple.

ok, since you didn't want to think about what I posted, what is the purpose of an ROTC scholorship? what is the purpose of ROTC?

why do you think it's acceptable to try to get an ROTC scholorship with the intend of defrauding the government? because that's what you're proposing. now, per my previous posts, go find the answers to those questions.

Ranger KW Driver-
I don't mean to defraud the government, college is very expensive, and I just wanted to be able to afford going to a good school, as well as serving my country. I know the purpose of ROTC is to produce officers. I had read a post by Ranger Bill which had said that you can do ROTC for your freshman and sophomore year, and not sign any contract. If the scholarship requires me to do 4 years and get a commission, then I will not take the scholarship and I will just do the first two years of ROTC.

"If you truly want to be a Ranger, the way to gaurantee a shot is to enlist in the depayed entry program with an Option 40 contract. You can attend ROTC classes during college and not commission." -This was from another post about joining the Regiment

once you accept the scholorship, you are contractually obligated.
