I am concerned that with all the media attention,(much of it misguided and misfocused), this attack will give terrorist types a whole new list of targets; American military bases. In my opinion, the military needs to be very careful and deliberate in the way they deal with this incident and similar personal issues. I realize changes in security and base access are difficult and complex subjects, but I wonder if the radar watching both military and civilian personal on these bases should be modified.
I would like to hear some opinions of those on this site, especially Rangers.
Thank You,
D.

The bad guys have been onto this target set for some time. Read the "Allen West on Ft Hood massacre" post in this forum:

Re: Fort Hood Massacre
Col. West's post is excellent. But, getting back to my question, what about security on the bases? My work has taken me to Army, Navy, and Air Force bases. There were times when I was working in tightly secured areas, sometimes even with armed guards accompanying me all day. In these situations, there were pretty involved background checks on all the people working. I don't think there is a problem when that kind of security is in place. But what about the thousands of people and vehicles that enter the installations on a daily basis? There are many that work for suppliers, contractors and material companies that really aren't screened. Should there be changes in the basic security?
Then, what about the people in the military itself, should they be scrutinized more closely? A Sargent, and a Major have recently murdered their fellow soldiers.
Thank You,
D.

Please accept my apology for posting these questions. In retrospect, I realize they are inappropriate.
