Hello all,
I would first like to state it is an honor to join a forum with individuals who are part of America’s elite fighting force. I hope to gain some knowledge and wisdom from those who have or already been through what I myself hope to achieve.
My name is Andrew; I'm currently 19 years old and attending college. I’m a first generation Mexican American. Throughout my life I have had two goals; the first is to join the military and the second is to become a law enforcement officer. No matter what I do I always strive for the best; thus ever since a young age I began physical activates because when I joined the military I wanted to be part of the elite. That meant one had to be mentally and physically fit. At the age of 11 I came in third place in my cities 5k marathon. In high school I was in track, waterpolo, and the swim team.
My goal was to join the military after high school, but I was born with a rare deformation on both of my feet. So I had reconstructive surgery to my right and left foot; thankfully the surgery was a success and I have normal feet with the exception of two scars. I never let that deformation get me down. It was always painful and left me at a disadvantage when doing sport actives; needless to say I still beat some individuals in track and waterpolo. I’m a very determined and hard working individual I more than likely inherited that from my hard working immigrant parents.
I have lurked the forums on numerous occasions and apologize for not signing up sooner. At the present time I am working with an Army recruiter. I had all my paperwork and Asvab scores transferred from the Air Force. I am just awaiting all my medical records to get back to me so I can give them to my recruiter and get the ball rolling. In the mean time I’m working on building back my endurance to what it was once when I was in waterpolo.
My hard work and determination have never let me down; accordingly I do not plan on “wasting a spot” I do want to let down an individual who might have been a Ranger but had his slot taken up. I’m not selfish, and if I say I am going to do something I will do it.

Long story short my recruiter was honorably discharged and I was assigned another recruiter. This recruiter had the attitude "well if you need extra work, I'm not going to waste my time with you."(plenty of other recruits)I was going to seek another recruiter when I stumbled upon an Army's recruiters card which had been given to me in high school. I called him and made a trip to his station; he was more than happy to work with me and tell me about the army's elite soldiers. I made it clear to him that I will not stand for nothing less than what I want(to get a chance to show I am worthy); additionally their was a soldier there who told me his "how I didn't become a Ranger story."
