Enlistment Problems... Need Help

Post by MikeZDM »

Recently I went back to my Recruiter's office and he wasn't there (he was at MEPS with another recruit) and instead I spoke with his boss an SFC. Now everything that I was told by my recruiter was basically flipped when I spoke with the SFC.

He basically told me that to become a Ranger it didn't matter what my ASVAB score was and it only depended on if the Rangers were looking for people and depended on what my "job" was (that's all he continued to repeat was "job" this and "job" that and I asked if he was talking about MOS). He continued to tell me that my ASVAB score didn't really matter and that bonuses weren't a lot even though I have a experience with multiple languages as well as overseas experience. The worse part was, he told me I had to retrieve my original High School Diploma and transcripts (since I only had copies) and they would have them translated since I graduated from a Turkish High School. After speaking with this SFC i felt like he was bullshitting me and talking out of his ass, and my uncle who was in the first Gulf War as a Specialist in 11B. I mean the worse was he said that when i get down there to Basic, I would have to chance to sign up for the Rangers, and according to everyone that I know who's been in the army, if it's not in your Enlistment Contract your screwed. Get it in the contract or walk is what I've been told to do.

Now I've been stressing on the ASVAB and my conditioning and working my ass off and still my Recruiter hasn't contacted me and I feel alone in this whole process without help. I'm worried I won't score high enough or can't run fast enough and my dream of being a Ranger will end. I've been told to get a new recruiter because this one is a lazy-good for nothing. My Diploma and Transcripts are being sent and are on the way so I'm a little lost on what to do now.

Any help would be awesome.

Also on a side note, would there be a problem to obtain a Secret Security Clearance since I've been overseas for 5 years?

Mike, a man has only one opportunity to make a favorable initial impression. You seem to have recovered nicely. You are correct in observing that obtaining a reservation for Ranger is important. If you truly want to earn a place in the 75th Ranger Regiment, you came to the right site. I would be interested in hearing about your experiences at a Turkish High School. Never, never quit!!!

So what languages do you speak? Foreign languages are always useful. your abilities would certain have relevance in today's theatre of operations.

bottom line, no Option 40 contract, no Ranger assignment. The option 40 is the only thing that you should focus on with your recruiter(s). Are you interested in Infantry (11x) or something else?

While I can't verify 100%, the story of requiring a translation of your High School transcripts makes sense. This would also likely be required of you if applying to a U.S. university. No matter what your ambitions are, military or otherwise, it would probably be a good idea to get these as they will come in handy in the future.

Thank you Ranger X. I speak Turkish, German, Italian, and French. The last 3 I can speak alright, I have the ability to speak them and learn them quickly so that should make up for something.

I'm highly interested and strongly want the 11x Option 40 contract. Today I went to another recruiting station and spoke with them. The entire station is filled with SFC and the Station Commander is a Ranger. Ranger SFC (*****name deleted by Admin) basically told me that he will bend over backwards to get me that Option 40 and he would make calls to get me what I need.

I apologize yet again Ranger Kilted Heathen. I thought just using his last name would be fine. It won't happen again. I'll refer to him as Ranger Recruiter. Sorry again.

Should be able to resolve any issues prior to enlisting. Mostly, the problem can be mitigated with proper planning.

I've spoken with my Recruiter and he assured me there shouldn't be any issue but if there was we'd be able to fix that.
