You can do what ever you want. But me, as a man of principles when I say I am going to do something I follow though with it, even if it puts me out a bit. That is my personal feelings on the issue. BTW what are you looking to change it too?

I guess I am not following you. Do you feel like you will be better trained in EOD than as an infantryman? Or do you just think you wil get your rocks off blowing up and getting blown up by IEDs? Or do you just think you are to smart to be in the infantry? It sounds like the third option is the case.

I absolutely do not think that I am "too smart" to be in the Infantry. I simply think that I would enjoy EOD work more than Infantry work, and will receive better training. It simply seems more appealing. I definitely understand that being an Infantryman takes intelligence, initiative and dedication and do not take their contribution for granted.

The training is no better than the pupil. Failure at either endeavor has but one consequence. I think you would be best suited to stop and reevaluate all your priorities, because from my vantage point they are fucked.

Well, at least you aren't trying to opt out of the Infantry to be a less...'forward deployed'...MOS. It takes balls to do both jobs. Personally, I think EOD is the ballsiest job in the military given the modern fight. I'm not sure how many folks are lining up for that gig.

Here's an option you might wish to consider; stick with what you have and look at EOD as a re-enlistment option. You'd be a more well rounded solider and, as I recall, a lot of EOD guys are second MOS soldiers. In fact, it looks like it might even be required.

My goal is not to puss out of a dangerous job, but rather to find a job that I will enjoy doing for 8 years. I believe that I will enjoy Infantry, and I consider it an honer to have a chance to do such a job. However, I also think I would enjoy EOD. I will consider the option of reenlistment.

Ranger RRDTm3,

I did take an oath and gave my word to protect my country, and wholeheartedly look forward to this portion of my life.

Segev
Good answer. Maybe my approach isnt as black and white as some but Id rather have a soldier doing what he wanted rather than biding his time at half speed. If you can get it changed, do it. Whats the worst answer you can get by asking? If your stuck, do it right. Drive on.
