And the Cash for Clunkers incentive is the most successful program in the history of the United States. At least this is what I'm getting from the media.panthersix wrote:What are you stupid! At this time, you're more likely to die in a vehicular crash here in the USA rather than by a terrorist attack, so turn your cell phone off while driving.tmax1014 wrote:What is the consensus on them being able to pull off targeted attacks, i.e. assassinations?
Are they disciplined enough and have the capability to pull off "clean" assassinations or would they be more like suicide missions with almost certainty of the assassin being killed or captured?
I would think that it would be more of the latter than the former, but I am as green as it gets when it comes to this. I only know what I have read in the media, and the credibility of topics such as these are never that certain in today's media.

The total number of people killed in highway crashes in 2001 was 42,116, compared to 41,945 in 2000.

Oh, Ranger Panthersix... next thing you know you are going to be telling us to drive the speed limit.panthersix wrote: At this time, you're more likely to die in a vehicular crash here in the USA rather than by a terrorist attack, so turn your cell phone off while driving.
On topic... we ran some interesting numbers on assassination attempts/terrorist attacks in combination with cyber war as part of the cyber-warfare work.tmax1014 wrote:What is the consensus on them being able to pull off targeted attacks, i.e. assassinations?

An elegant attack would generally not be terrorist driven. That is, they have no need for elegance.

Yeah, but my question is....how important do you have to be, to be considered assassinated and not just murdered? :?DrD wrote:Oh, Ranger Panthersix... next thing you know you are going to be telling us to drive the speed limit.panthersix wrote: At this time, you're more likely to die in a vehicular crash here in the USA rather than by a terrorist attack, so turn your cell phone off while driving.![]()

Well, I would define assassination as the murder of a person of enough prominence so as to 1) cause psychological damage to the society or 2) that will result in substantial damage to the governing of the society or 3) result in a significant shift in the direction in which it is being led.
One can also argue that the method and publicity are important as well. As are the purpose, goals, and consequences to the murder.
