"You tied it - you ride it".

Renegotiating enlistment contracts requires work from recruiters that they get no credit for. Once you signed the line, they got what they needed and will direct their energies towards fresh recruits. Recruiters want you in ASAP, not only to meet their mission goals (aka "quotas") but basic principal of sales; to get you in while you're still interested. You might decide in a week that you prefer underwater messkit repair and get intercepted by the USAF recruiter while you wait or meet Suzy Creamcheese and remain a contemptable civilian.
It can't hurt to ask, the worst that can happen already has, you get to try out for something else respectable.

Lesson for would-be recruits: The slots appear in regular cycles. No openings today? Try again later - tell the recruiter to call as soon as a slot appears, they're programmed months in advance. But avoid the pitfalls mentioned above. The Navy or underwater messkit repair will not be better ideas, even if you're in a rush to leave today.

Many Opt40s terminate their contracts while in OSUT or upon arrival at BAC so 'on-the-spot' vacancies can concievably be grabbed up. Elsewhere on this board an Opt40 posted his just arrived at BAC sitrep describing this. The Ranger Laison NCO appears & has a formation for the Ranger volunteers. His first words: "Who wants to quit?". Viola! 13 or so instant vacancies. You might be able to grab one like that by contacting the liason NCO during a pass from OSUT or in between schools or showing up with the Opt40s and directly asking for one of the quitter slots. In any event, you will have to show the initiative to get it done.

In the past, there have been several Future Soldiers from this site who were able to renegotiate their contracts. Talk with your recruiter and be respectful, level with him and have a cooperative attitude. If you do not try, you never will.

Now that you had time to adjust fire and render the proper courtesy on this board, tell us what happened with your situation.
