Oregon Army Ranger dies in accident

Ft. Benning soldier dies in motorcycle wreck

LADONIA, Ala. (AP) -- An Oregon man stationed at Fort Benning is dead after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck in Ladonia, Ala., on Saturday.

Phenix City police say 22-year-old Octav Claudiu Giurgiu of Portland was traveling east on Highway 80 West when he collided with a pickup truck.

Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry said the soldier was killed on impact.

No one else was hurt.

The Army says Giurgiu was assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Ladonia, Ala. is approximately 10 miles east of Fort Benning, Ga.

RIP, truly great guy I understand by speaking to his peers and others.

Without blurring his contributions there is more to the story, I have spent the past three days investigating the accident.
