Ok i have decided i should come too you guys for help. My father and step father are both former Navy SEALS so the pressure is on for me to be a SEAL. But i really want to be a Ranger. When an Army recruiter came to my house my step dad almost got in a fight with him. My step dad says the Army is for pussies who cant swim. So any ideas on what i could or should do??? I think there was an E-6 SEAL on here not long ago, complaining about not getting to see much action in the GWOT and suggesting that he'd go into the Rangers, but only IF an interservice transfer would result in a loss of only one paygrade.
As if his making it would be so freaking automatic that this was his only concern.
Seriously though, I thought to be a SEAL you have to put in some service in the Navy first, then go to their selection or BUD/S. If you get a Ranger Contract you go straight through your training and if you pass everything, you're deploying right away, assuming your Bn has deployments scheduled. No two year wait to go to RIP, you go right away.

Re: Help
Either way you go, LEARN TO SWIM! I saw many a good Ranger get the boot because they failed the CWST. I'm actually shocked that your dad said that. The SEALs I was fortunate enough to train with had an excellent rapport with their Army counterparts. I found that, by and large, the vast majority of elite warriors from the different service branches have a high amount of respect for each other. Perhaps your dad is one of the bitterSpank It wrote:My step dad says the Army is for pussies who cant swim. So any ideas on what i could or should do??? Thanks for the help!
1%ers. In any case, thank him for his service to our country.
Bottom line: it's your life...follow your heart. I don't think you could go wrong either way, Rangers or SEALs. Personally, I wouldn't want to live on a ship...it has nothing to do with my swimming abilities. Good luck to you.

Always remember: BROS BEFORE HOES.
My opinion on SEALs and Rangers....
Do you see a SEAL permanently attached to each Ranger Command?
No.
Is there a Ranger attached to the SEAL commands to help them with patrolling and whatnot? Yes.
Read "The Finishing School" by Dick Couch. SEAL book...It mentions more then a few times to "Be like a Ranger"..."Do it the Ranger Way"....
Now if Rangers did it the SEAL way, we'd have to get rid of our rucksacks, go hollywood, and try to make a buck from everything we did........
:)
Make up your own mind, son.

When I first looked into starting a career in the military, I wanted to be a SEAL. Why? It's one of the most common things you hear about these days, face it, buncha movies out there regarding SEALs, and even games. It's just how it is.
The more I looked into it, the more I realized that I'm more of a land and mud guy, rather than a water guy. This is when I contacted my Army recruiters office to ask for information. I found out about special forces, and special operations units (because that's what I wanted to do), and my recruiter recommended Rangers. He told me how many of the training that SEALs undergo is by the Army, or was developed by the Army.
My recruiter from the Navy (about 2-3 years ago) was a SEAL, he said that he was one of the unfortunate people that finished SEAL training, but wasn't able to receive a slot, and ended up spending 1.5 years on a boat until he was able to get on a team. Personally, I wouldn't want to take that risk, and because of the other reasons I mentioned, I decided Rangers is what I want to do.
So that's what I'm going to do. It's always good to get as much information you can about the service you want to go into, and as much information you can on other services out there, perhaps you will be more interested in something else. Hell, if I didn't do that, I wouldn't be in the position I am in now.
It's kind of a quality of life issue here, make sure you make an educated decision on what you want to do, make sure the people who care about you understand, but don't let your parents influence you in the wrong way due to blindness of the situation.
It's your career, it's your life. I'm sure they will be proud of you for whatever you decide to do, though.
Good luck,
Eric

This is why dumbass DEPs don't answer other dumbass DEPs posts....
Pansy ass, you are on thin ice.
Read more, post less. Do you really think that you are so special as to have some sort of insight that the Rangers and Veterans on this board don't?

Ranger BadMuther, I am not a DEP. Nor is Spank It - so we are on the same level of existence, I wasn't answering anything about the tasks required to become a soldier, as stated in the rules.
I was simply passing on helpful information on how I got to make my decision, as I was in the same situation Spank It is in, so perhaps it would be helpful to him.

Fuckstick, Sorry, next time I'll make sure to peg you at the exact level that you are at.
Real men make their own fucking decisions. Did you not see all the posts to him already by other Rangers?????? What did your post accomplish? You like the land, and you got info from a fake SEAL who is a LIAR-only you are too young and inexperienced to know that he was FOS!
My advice to you, (and I am getting REALLY sick of repeating myself), is to READ MORE, POST LESS..........If you value being here, you WILL take my advice.

Your stepdad started a fight with an Army recruiter in your house? If the Recruiter was a Ranger he would have whipped your stepdad's ass. Your stepdad sounds like an insecure deck swabbing bitch.
