HARARE, Zimbabwe - Zimbabwe's longtime ruler Robert Mugabe was sworn in as president for a sixth term Sunday after a widely discredited runoff in which he was the only candidate. His main rival dismissed the inauguration as "an exercise in self-delusion."

Just hours after electoral officials said Mugabe won Friday's presidential runoff, which observers said was marred by violence and intimidation, the 84-year-old leader sounded a conciliatory note.

Not surprising that things went this way. I am however disgusted that nobody has slaughtered him and his family yet.

He was quoted as saying that regardless of the election outcome, he would never give up power. He said something to the effect of "We have the guns. What good is a bic pen against a bullet?.."

It was funny as fuck to hear his foreign minister try and defend their position when the UN Security Council said without mincing words that the election is a complete and total sham. (anyones feelings about the UN not withstanding.. )
