If the policy is "No cell phones" then that's the policy. Whether or not the young man's punsihment was equitable when compared to other students who violated the same policy is a different question.
Having been deployed I can say that you call your Family when it is convenient for them and not when it is convenient for you. I called my family to suit their schedule and not my own.
I am sick and tired of all these groups and Soldiers that feel everyone should bend over backwards for them just for the simple fact that they are doing the job they are being paid to do.
You're deployed, it sucks....it's your job!

Yep. While some rules may seem stupid to the outside world or even to the soldiers themselves, the fucking rules are the fucking rules. But it isnt like the soldiers dont know the rules. Move on.I am sick and tired of all these groups and Soldiers that feel everyone should bend over backwards for them just for the simple fact that they are doing the job they are being paid to do.

Rules, shmules, they should still take into consideration that "Dad or Mom" may not get another chance for a week or so. Maybe they should have the deployed parents call the school and the student get paged to the office....Rock Island Ranger wrote:Yep. I agree...and may it NOT be the son's last opportunity to talk with his father.Invictus wrote:I call bullshit. I don't see how talking to a parent that LIVES in harms way is the same as talking to Sally about when you're going to the mall.
I'm all for rules, but there's a fine line between hard and stupid.
Rules are not made to be broken but for God's sake use some common sense on the exceptions...jeez. However, the parents may need to bone up to some responsibility here AND SET an example of following rules. It is a fine line.

I don't see it as a "major issue" but in reality the father is the one who is in the wrong. As I stated earlier, I called according to my families schedule and not my own.Invictus wrote:I call bullshit. Nope actully Most Dads and Moms can call almost anytime they want ....and some have private cell phones to do it with. Communication isnt the problem it was years ago.
