Parachute may belong to famed hijacker
SEATTLE - Hoping to solve at least part of a 36-year-old mystery, the FBI is analyzing a torn, tangled parachute found in southwest Washington to determine if it belonged to famed plane hijacker D.B. Cooper.
Children playing outside their home near Amboy found the chute's fabric sticking up from the ground in an area where their father had been grading a road, agent Larry Carr said Tuesday. They pulled it out as far as they could, then cut the parachute's ropes with scissors.

I'm with the Wino......he didn't hurt anyone, he had an original idea, and he had a great plan. If this is his chute, he had to have made it safely to the ground because they found $5,800.00 on the bank of the Columbia River a while back in a place that the money could not have washed there from Amboy.
I hope he used the money to start a successful business and is kicked back now enjoying his grandkids. :D

hhhmmm... so what you are saying is you condone his hijacking of an aircraft becauseSlowpoke wrote:I'm with the Wino......he didn't hurt anyone, he had an original idea, and he had a great plan. 1) he didn't hurt anyone
2) he had an original idea
3) and he had a great plan.
Do you then condone other criminal behavior if it meets
these exact same criteria?
I haven't always been the laid back, purveyor of good will, honest citizen that you see before you now. So, yes, my sence of right and wrong may be slightly skewed from others. And, pretty much, as long as a crime meets those criteria, I don't have much of a problem with it.
I don't have a problem with victimless crimes.
I think prostitution should be legal and taxed.
I think most drugs should be legal and taxed.
I think gambling should be legal and taxed.
If people can't stay away from shit that is bad for them then it's their own fault!

You want prostitution, most drugs and gambling legal?
You should consider relocating to Nevada, we got all that here brother!
I've also watched with facination the stories of D.B. Cooper growing up and watch him turn into the 'peoples criminal ' and somewhat of a hero. Playing with my first pair of fake handcuffs, it was my dream as a child to someday be the FBI agent that cuffed him.
I still hope that they someday get their man.

While I support the law & order POV of RTO, I still cheer for ol' DB.
Maybe the romantic pirate streak in me likes to believe that DB was a frustrated SF VN vet. Makes a good story anyway.
When he passes, I hope he leaves his memoirs somewhere where they'll be found and published, with proof of the authenticity.
The fellow that found the money during my last full year in the RA shares my family name, so when I was getting out, everyone accused me of having ulterior motives
The ''90s sitcom "News Radio" had an episode where the eccentric billionaire station owner, Jimmy James, was under suspicion concerning where & how he came by his seed money... 'Poke, you'd have enjoyed that one.
I know it's hypocritical, but while I'd have liked to have seen the rent-a-cops nail our recent bank robbers in the act, I still like the fact that DB might still be out there.
DB: If you found this thread somehow, I'm available as a ghost writer! You don't even need to cut me in, just chip in for some burgers and beers while we work. :D

Tenn-Rgr & you other Sky Gods; here's your chance at fame!:
From the article:
There are no obvious markings on the parachute to indicate whether it's the type Cooper used, a Navy Backpack 6 with a 26-foot canopy, (FBI agent) Carr said. He's hoping a member of the public who has expertise in the parachutes will come forward and confirm whether it's the right kind before the FBI bothers to excavate the property. Barring that, the agency could turn to scientific analysis of the fabric.

According to RetPara's linky:
"Universal Pictures publicity said that if anyone can come up with any information leading to the capture of the real Cooper, could get $1 million dollar reward"
