Hello REGNARS,
My name is Ranger Beadle, I was in one of the last RIP classes at 1st Bat before Regiment took RIP from Battalions and moved both from 1st & 2nd to one location at Benning (1SG Conrad took over as Regimental RIP 1ST SGT). I was almost immediately transferred to Regiment and served with Col. Wayne A. Downing (3rd Col of the Regiment) and CSM Gary Carpenter. I don't remember everyone’s name that I served with but I'll mention a few that I can, SGT O'Donnell (we referred to him as SGT OD), Ranger Berlanga (who was in a CO-HORT Unit at 5th ID and I later helped get him a slot at RIP, he never took no for an answer because at the time you couldn't get out of a co-hort unit for any reason, but Berlanga did and made it), Ranger Guzman (who was the Regimental Photographer when we were in Garrison and we witnessed the death of a fellow Ranger on the Silver Wings die because of a total malfunction in '85 on the 4th of July in front of the entire class of Airborne students in front of Infantry Hall, may he rest in peace). MSG Luna who was top dog with Recon, 1SG Placios (wrong spelling I think but he was high speed, philipino best friends with SGM Leon Guerrero, bad spelling again).
I am one of the few Rangers who got kicked out of Ranger School when we got back from florida 2 days before graduation because of fighting and missing a routine formation 3-86 (I'm not proud of that but its the truth so I gotta put it out there). I also served with Col. Smokin Joe Stringham (4th Col of the Regiment) and CSM Cobb who took over when Col Downing went to SOCOM (I mention that only because its no longer a secret that Col or should I say General Downing was a former Commander there otherwise I would never put it out there like that) and CSM Carpenter was the Regimental Sergant Major under Col Downings Leadership who later went to 25TH ID as the Division CSM (I had the utmost respect for CSM Carpenter and liked him a great deal). MSG Raymond Wells was my NCOIC and used to boast that his uniform was on display at the Smithsonian (I later heard that he became Regimental Command Sergeant Major but that was after I got out and I cannot confirm that). I also worked with CPT Champouix and who later went to 2nd Bn, SFC Porter (a brother who PCS'd to 2nd Bn. Rgr Perez-Vega and 1SGT Black are the only people I remember from 1st Bn (other than Bn Commander LTC Nightingale/SGM Leon Guerero).
I got out in March of 86. I currently live in a small town in Oregon where there’s plenty of fishin, huntin and fresh air, home of the pine needle as we like to call it. Of all the things I have done in my life (some good, some bad) there is nothing I'm more proud of besides the birth of my two children, than to know that I served my country as a U.S. Army Ranger.
I was often referred to as Ranger Beadle Bug...... well that's about it. I'd like to personally thank the Rangers who put this site together for us to have fellowship with one another. I'm happy to be here with my fellow RANGERS!!!

"Back when I was in, our web gear was made of stone!!!"
"We didn't have rucksacks, we had to carry our gear in 55 gallon drums on our back!"

Hell, it took me 21 years to find the internet and start thinking about Rangers again. It only took Ranger Beadle 18 years to find us. hahahhaha.BadMuther wrote:Bell wrote:Welcome to the board Ranger Beadle. Took ya long enough.

And beside that, I know some of those guys. I'll bet he remembers Purdy, my old Platoon Sergeant and Captain Grange. But he wasn't a Captain after I left. Doc Donovan was still around I think. Hmmm....there's some more.

Welcome Ranger. We had a Sgt Placios (Staff or Plt) in 2ndn Bat way back when. His wife cooked up some octopus that we caught while dining in Puget Sound.

LMAO (Laughin My Ass Off), at some of these comments (yeah I'm damn sure in the right place). To answer some of your questions, yeap it took me a mighty long time to find my way back home, and I just got me ah cell phone 3 weeks ago. I still can't figure out how to play them friggin games, whatever happened to just plain ole makin a phone call with a phone and that was about all you could do (w/the exception of the "occassional" prank phone call).

Yeah, It sucked BIG TIME to get my stupid ass in trouble, they let me go back to Regiment but I ETS'd shortly thereafter because I was short (I remember CSM Cobb wasn't too happy with me and what sucked even MORE was having to go back and face him). Again I'm not proud of havin to put that out there.
Hooah, I remember Purdy, Doc (1st Bn), don't remember Grange though.
Thanks for the welcome mat Rangers, its good to be home (wish I was back in) and because this is Memorial Day a moment of silence for all of our Fallen Soldiers who died for our Country. We Salute You!

I knew a bunch of the guys he served with. Downing, Cobb, OD...this guy is pretty old, ya know. Downing was a Major when I knew him, Cobb was an E-7, OD an E-4. Guess that makes me....older than you. Hummm. Course you may be like Ranger Bell and came in the service when you were 40.
2 days before graduation...holy shit. I wouldnt hold that against anyone but for the love of GRITS.....do all that and have to leave 2 fucking days before graduation. Man, that sucks like a vacume cleaner. Hope the fight you got in was worth it like maybe with one of those punk ass city week hollywood stars.
