Grateful Citizen

Post by clk54 »

Among my blessings I count today, my freedom is of utmost importance. It seems surreal that an another assault on the United States of America's traditions, values, and culture could happen, but a school distirct in Seattle apparently found a way to create controversy about the Thanksgiving holiday.

My understanding of the report I viewed on Fox News is that members of a Seattle school district would have the traditional meaning of the Thanskgiving holiday reinterpreted as a negative event. The assertion of these indiviudals is that the real value of early United States history is to acknowledge the decimation of the Native American tribes by European settlers. The true story of this period is not to give pause and thanks to the courage and commmitment of founding fathers, and mothers, of this great nation. Rather, we should hang our heeds in sorrow and shame.

I cannot do this. I cannot discard 57 years of pride as a citizen of this country, pride in my Italian grandparents who legally enterd this country to find a better way of life, pride in my sons' service in the military--former and current, and pride in this country's role in the global community. I will not do this. I will not allow the apologists, the left wing facists, and the anarchists to intimidate the decent, hard-working labor backbone of this great nation.

Today I want to give thanks. For my wonderful family, my loving friends, and to you, all military members, past and present, who make it possible for us to enjoy our freedoms. Without your service, without your grit, your pride, your commitment, the United States would be another failed social experiment. And so in this spirit, I count you among my blessings today and in my prayers everyday for your sense of honor and duty.

I too am pretty slow this week, but thanks for the post. I think most people here would agree. And by the way, you should NOT and hopefully you will NOT discard 57 years of pride and beliefs.
