Basic&AIT now or later?

Post by NateTheGreat »

Quick Overview
I am a green card holder.
Reserves will expedite my citizenship process so I can volunteer for RIP after 4 years of reserves.
Money for college is a plus but is not a necessity.

Sit-rep on Situation

MEPS
Great news in the A.M. My ACL reconstructed knee was a green-light with the ortho-consult. I am also Airborne Certified.

Originally I was going to take the split-op Army Reserve Option and attend Basic during June 3rd (High School Graduation) to August 22nd (Start of College). However, I learned today that Basic is 11 weeks due to processing and such, and not the 9 weeks my recruiter told me (Dumbass, no self-research on my part). I walked out of MEPS, because I didn't think I had enough research to make an informed decision.

Long story short, there is no way I can attend Basic this summer; so my recruiters are pushing me to delay entry into college until my winter semester and to the standard reserve training. (Basic & AIT together).

Because I am enlisting in the Army Reserve it is next to impossible to get an 11B and an Airborne contract. But my recruiters are talking to some higher-ups to see what they can do. I know this is all word of the mouth, but as of now they have done a superb job of not shitting out the oral cavity. If not I will enlist with a 63B contract and get assigned to an airborne unit so it will be easier to obtain an airborne contract.
(I cannot do Civil Affairs or Psyc Ops because of secruity clearance issues, and the nearest Parachute Ripper opening is 3hrs away) *These all have airborne contracts assigned to them)

My question is:
Should I join now and enlist into the Army Reserves and push back college into the spring semester?
OR
Tell the recruiters off. And enlist Active Duty after my four years of undergrad college?
OR
Other option I am not aware of.

Thank you,
Nate
*My recruiter wants me to give him a firm answer asap, any advice will be heeded.
Go 110% and then some

What about the Army National Guard? In many states they help with college tuition just for being a member.
