This guy, Damien Ficek...this guy about freaked me the fuck out. I was going into the 525 Replacement Company chow hall for breakfast. When I see two guys in uniform get out of a government van. And I swear to God, one of them was him. I walked right past him. The guy I saw had a 2/75 Combat scroll and tab and was a SSG wearing a NG patch left side. I couldn't get his name, but it was a spitting image. Just like looking at his photo. This guy gave me a weird look because I kept staring at him. It was freaky.
It's all good brother. I feel your pain. AW was doing what he wanted to do. The last time we talked was at Rendezvous. We had a good "heart to heart". He was happy.KW Driver wrote:This one still pisses me off.

yeah, his first day inprocessing Rucker was my last on post. kept meeting up at the same offices with our papers to get stamped.
told him the deal, hope I helped him out. he had a really nice wife too, and the kids weren't around yet.
what pisses me off is the way he died, after all he'd been through.

And it did.
Great website Wade, thanks for finding it.
Found a good friend. http://www.iraqwarheroes.com/sullivanc.htm
Sad story too. One of those situations where the BDE Cdr had kept him waiting a while for his command. He came down to the BN where I worked with him for the 2-3 months prior to his taking command. One week after taking command, he was killed by an IED.
I remember "assisting" the BN CDR with the FRG newsletter. I wrote one week about him taking command. The next week's letter about his death and the next week's letter about his ceremony. Saddest thing I ever did - I didn't write any more after that.
