Cripple falls out of tandem harness

Post by msg_dman »

There is a story in this months Parachutist magazine about a crippled guy who wanted to do a tandem. He was unstable in the harness on exit so the tandem master opened at 10,000 feet. The crippled guy fell out of the harness and burned in from 10,000 feet.

I can't imagine what this guy went through, that would have been alomost a 2 minute fall before he hit. Imagine the family on the ground that agreed to let him do it.

Blue Skys Dude!

Oh and reason number 244 why I will not tandem with anyone. Period.

It is just me or does this make anyone want to go skydiving?
Maybe...but not tandem.

I'm like Bill Engvall in that regard. "I'm always afraid that we'll be falling and I'll scream and go, 'OMG We're gunna die!' and he'll pull the connectors and go, 'Nope, you are.'"

I've actually been tempted to try skydiving (amazing since I'm scared of falling from heights lol), told it's a great experience.

Good thing the guy in tandem with him wasn't Polish of he'da thrown off his harness thinking the cripple guy wanted to race to the ground.

I know, it's distasteful but still a funny joke.
Tell them Sargeant, that's what JumpMasters are for - had to be civilian.

What page is it on? I read the article about the guy that no one would tandem because he was an amputee above the waist and there isn't a tandem rig made for people like that, but DAMN  . I didnt read that one. That fucking sucks. Thats not a bad way to go though, I have seen worse.
Its in the accidents and fatalities. I just got the issue today. 2 Tandems fell out and died, and 2 tandems were seriously hurt.

Page 53 August issue.

Well, sucks that he died, but at least he went out doing something exciting that he always wanted to.

Actually no, not tight. That is the reason, after all, for the discussion about him.
