I am about to embark...

Post by Runner »

...upon my Great Crusade, towards which I have striven these many months. :D
This coming Monday I'm heading to the hotel, then down to Ft. Benning to begin my training. Per Ranger Jim's request, I'm gonna post a little bit of what I've learned since I joined this site 2 years ago.

First of all, I've been here long enough to see many DEPs come and ship, some make it, some not. I've tried to draw parallels between these DEPs who became Rangers, but have found that this is impossible. The one thing these men have in common is that they never ever quit, thus proving what we are told by the Rangers and Vets here seemingly at every turn.

Secondly, I learned from this site that you never ever have an excuse. You are 100% responsible for yourself and anyone you are in charge of. There is no acceptable reason for fucking up.

Thirdly, I have learned that talk without action means nothing. I'm sure some of you are reading this and thinking to yourself "yeah, but you're just a DEP who hasen't done jack shit." and you are correct. Talk is nice, and it sounds good, but untill I put these words into action, they won't truly mean anything.

Finally I'd just like to thank everyone on this board for the tomes of advice, information and guidance you have all provided. I honestly believe that if I never joined this site, I'd still be the excuse making dipshit I was once I arrived.

I want the scroll and beret more than anything, Rangers. I will not let you or myself down.

Malarkey,

I assume that you'll be writing SITREPs to Ranger Jim. If not, PM me.

I wish you the very best. Anyone in decent physical shape can accomplish the mission that you're setting out on....they just have to have the guts to finish the job, no matter what it takes. There lies the problem for many. Recite the Ranger Creed each morning before you vacate your bunk. Try to live that Creed each day. If you do, you'll make it.

Finally, thanks for the assistance you have provided on our site. You've done a lot for us by policing up newbies, etc. It has been appreciated.

I look forward to the day that I get to upgrade your title to Ranger. 8)

Malarkey, you have done well on this site. Keep your eye on the ball and lean forward in the foxhole and you will do well. Keep us informed of your status.

Bryan,
You have come a long way and absorbed your fair share of abuse. Now it is time to put it to work. Success or failure are yours based on your efforts. Never, never quit!

I had the advice from many individuals on how to make it through Ranger School. The two pieces that kept me in the game were each day give 110% and never quit trying. Trying and giving your all will allow you never to regret anything that happens good/ bad/ indifferent.
Good Luck and embrace the suck. Nothing is better then all day on land nav in the rain.

Make your own luck.

Always take the initiative even if it means more work.

Always keep your bearing.

Never loose sight of your goal.
