These Dreams....

These Dreams....
Once in a while I have these dreams that I'm in combat, or fighting, and then I see the enemy. I lift up my rifle, aim to shoot him, have him in my sights....then nothing happens. Weird. I'm pulling on the trigger but it won't shoot, either the trigger's not there or it won't budge. And the gun doesn't fire.
WTF is going on?

How do these dreams make you feel?
Do you experience any kind of 'performance anxiety' related issues?
How do you view your relationship with your mother?
Do you use drugs?
These feelings that you are experiencing may reinforce the notion that you think that you are inadaquate.

I'd say you need to chill the fuck out, switch to beer instead of whatever-the-fuck-your-using and get some therapy. Sooner, the better. Oh, take Viagra for those...intimate moments. They have a thing for guys like you in the Army, it's called a Chapter 8 and you DON'T want one.Choose it for me wrote:I don't use drugs, and nothing happens as a result of these dreams. I just go back to sleep and then go about my day. But when these dreams happen.....well its just weird. What explains it?

That's pretty funny. You know what, you remind me of a guy I knew early in my career. His name was Sundance Ring (I'm not joking), he was the son of hippies (obviously), was from Happy Valley, Oregon and was a complete fucking psychopath. My RIP instructor was completely beside himself when he came upon the gem that was PV2 Ring. I don't think he knew wether to smoke the absolute fuck out of Ring or adopt him and mold him into his own image.Choose it for me wrote:up yoursMalarkey wrote:http://www.armyranger.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=17333

For many people who think that sleeping is a waste of time, dreams are what make the whole process worthwhile. This involuntary emotional experience occurs during the rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, which occurs about 90 minutes after you've fallen asleep. Experts, however, are still at a loss to explain why humans dream.
They think that dreams are the result of neurological and behavioral aspects of human life. It's believed that 64% of dreams are associated with anxiety, anger or gloom, 18% are exhilarating and joyful, and only 1% are of a sexual nature.
purpose of dreams
Psychologists -- especially Sigmund Freud, a pioneer in this field -- believe that dreams are loaded with symbolism and are windows to our unconscious minds. In fact, dream interpretation is inherent to psychoanalysis, the therapy that focuses on unconscious forces and repression.
The emotions felt in dreams may very well reflect a person's character traits as well as his situation in everyday life. Through dreams, a person may feel insecurity, megalomania, love, envy, panic, or other feelings that testify to that person's mental state.
Still, many academic psychologists are of the opinion that there's no deep meaning to be found in dreams. For instance, Carl Jung believed that dreams do have meaning, but they're so subjective and different for everyone that making sense of it all would be impossible. As you can see, there are many schools of thought on the subject.
Some are of the opinion that the reason we dream is to purge certain thoughts, emotions and memories from the unconscious mind, or to eliminate superfluous data that could upset the brain's perfect chemical balance.
Of course, sometimes dreams merely represent images we've seen during the course of a day or in a movie. For example, you may dream of grade school after having run into a childhood friend the previous afternoon.
dictionary of dreams
There are psychologists who specialize in the science of sleep, and the people at DreamMoods.com have established some broad definitions for specific dreams. It might be an adequate place for you to start in the analysis of your own dreams.
Balcony
You dream that you're standing on a balcony.
Meaning: This refers to your desire to be seen by the world and noticed for what you are. It can also mean that financial gains are in your future.
Chase
In your dream, you're being chased by unsavory characters. You are running, hiding, trying to outwit someone who wants to hurt you.
Meaning: This usually happens when you're dealing with feelings of anxiety in your waking life. You're dealing with stress and fears, and you'd rather avoid this situation than confront it.
Death (someone else)
You dream about people who have been dead for a long time or you see loved ones dying.
Meaning: Seeing dead people in general is a sign that you're hanging around and being influenced by the wrong people. Dreaming of a person who has been dead for a long time may mean that you need to end your current relationship. If you dream about the death of a loved one, it may mean that you lack the qualities that this person has.
Death (yours)
Certainly one of the most upsetting dreams of all, you may see or feel yourself dying, no matter the method.
Meaning: Obviously, this can cause anxiety, but the dream itself is positive, as it signals that your life is about to change for the better. There are important changes ahead. Still, it may also mean that you have a destructive lifestyle or that you're in an unhealthy relationship.
Drowning
You're swimming and suddenly you're being pulled under water. You can't breathe; you're drowning.
Meaning: This literally means you're going under, emotionally. Repressed issues are coming back to haunt you. If you die from the drowning, there will be an emotional "rebirth." If you survive, you'll get through your troubles.
Ex-girlfriend
Even though you're in a relationship with someone new, you dream of your ex-girlfriend.
Meaning: This may remind you that she was your feminine ideal or that you're repeating an old pattern in your current relationship.
Falling
A common dream is one in which you're falling. You might or might not be frightened by it.
Meaning: If you're not afraid of the fall, it could mean that you won't have any problem overcoming your difficulties. If you are afraid, it may mean that you're feeling out of control and are afraid to fail.
Fight
You dream that you're fighting with somebody. It might even be to the death.
Meaning: You may interpret this as an indication that you're experiencing inner turmoil. Ideals within you are competing for attention. If you fight to the death, it could mean that you're not willing to acknowledge a conflict in your waking life.
Flying
Another very common dream is seeing yourself flying, floating through clouds or dashing through the air like a bird.
Meaning: Essentially, this indicates that you're feeling free because you're in complete control. Being powerful, you'll find success in all your enterprises.
Gambling
In Las Vegas, Atlantic City, or some backroom game, you're having fun gambling the night away.
Meaning: This could mean that you're participating in some high-risk activities and that perhaps you're not taking responsibility for your actions. If you're not a gambling man by nature, this dream may signify that you need to take a chance.
Kissing
In a romantic gesture, you see yourself kissing a beautiful woman. Perhaps you're even kissing a woman you hate.
Meaning: In general, kissing relates to love, tranquility and harmony. If you're kissing a close friend, it means you care for them deeply. Kissing an enemy can indicate betrayal and hostility. Kissing a stranger may mean that you need to get to know yourself better.
Money
With our lives so centered around money, you may definitely dream about it, whether in terms of financial gains or unscheduled spending.
Meaning: If you dream about winning money, it could mean that prosperity is within your grasp. It also illustrates self-confidence and power. However, if you dream about losing money, this can symbolize vulnerability and you may experience short-term unhappiness.
Nudity
It's quite possible that at some point in your life, you will dream that you are at work or school without any clothes on and feeling embarrassed about it.
Meaning: This public display of nudity can mean that you're afraid of being exposed for your shortcomings. You're feeling vulnerable and you may experience a loss of ambition.
Paralysis
A very frightening dream is when you're trying to move but find that you just can't; you're paralyzed.
Meaning: This dream may occur as a direct reflection of your immobility during the REM phase of sleep. Still, it may also indicate that you're emotionally paralyzed. You're unable to deal with a problem you've been facing.
Running
Similar to the chase scenario, you're running away, but in slow motion.
Meaning: If such a dream plagues you, it could be because you lack self-confidence. Interestingly, it may also reflect an actual state of REM paralysis while in the dream state.
Teeth
For some odd reason it is common to dream about your teeth, whether they're rotting away or falling.
Meaning: Should you see your teeth decaying, it could indicate that your business is in financial trouble. When your teeth are falling, you should be more assertive because it's believed to be a sign that you feel powerless. Swallowing one of your teeth is a sign that you will soon have to eat your words (admit you were wrong about something).
Yelling
Whatever other activities you may be doing in your dreams, you may find yourself screaming.
Meaning: Whether it's you or someone else who is yelling, it represents repressed anger. You may be in pain or feeling enthusiasm. You may feel a strong need to express yourself and release your emotions. If you're trying to scream but no sound is coming out, it may mean that some situation needs your immediate attention.
dream trivia
So what else do you need to know about dreams?
Dreams can last as long as the REM period, which lasts between five and 45 minutes.
Animals dream, since they also have REM phases.
REM periods occur every hour or so, which means that you have many dreams every night.
Light sleepers remember their dreams more easily.
Recurring dreams signify that something's bothering you and they usually subside once you deal with the issue.
Dreaming in black and white indicates a merge between your conscious and unconscious selves, which means you're benefitting from an internal change.
sweet dreams
When all is said and done, we must ask ourselves; what is the true significance of our dreams? Is it a message from God or the great beyond? A message from the future? A message sent telepathically by a friend? Or perhaps it's a message from our own unconscious mind?
As far as science goes -- and there's been a lot of research on the subject -- there is no clear answer. The only apparent conclusion scientists can draw is that the interpretation must be based on a dreamer's individual thoughts and emotional history.
So archive your dreams and evaluate them in the long term to see how the above dictionary may apply to you specifically. And good night.

lucid dreaming
Lucid dreaming is when you know you're dreaming. You might be happily dreaming like usual when something utterly bizarre occurs, like seeing yourself making your dog the head chef at your favorite restaurant. And then you realize that you're only dreaming.
While most people wake up right after they grasp it's not real life, it's possible to continue the dream and even exercise some control over it. The degree of control can improve with practice.
During a lucid dream, you can make choices on how the dream will turn out. For instance, you might not shy away from a wall of fire since you know it can't hurt you, this being only a dream. This can reduce the amount of nightmares you suffer from and help you confront repressed issues.
People who are masters of lucid dreaming have even been known to make up and live through entire fantasies. With enough motivation, effort and practice, you can will yourself to have lucid dreams and experience the natural equivalent of virtual reality.
Although many of us will never experience this state of dreaming, it's still pretty cool.
dictionary
Dreams being a controversial field of study, psychologists and sleeping experts have come up with certain definitions for specific dreams. The following have been developed by the folks at dreammoods.com.
Accident
Nudged between two wonderful dreams, you suddenly have visions of being involved in a car accident, or you see a loved one dying in such a catastrophe.
Meaning: Aside from the straightforward possibility that you may be afraid to be involved in a car accident, it may signify that you're feeling anxious and overdoing it in the fast lane of life. If you see a loved one dying in an accident, it may mean that you should re-evaluate this relationship, as you might want to break it off, and a part of you is dead.
Alcohol
You may dream that you're having a quiet drink and it's quite enjoyable and you may also see yourself on a drinking binge.
Meaning: Enjoying alcohol in moderation may be a sign that you're satisfied with yourself and the decisions you've made so far. Then again, dreaming of an excessive use of alcohol may mean that you're feeling inadequate and are afraid to be discovered for what you really are. In this context, alcohol is a crutch for your past actions.
Baby
Whether or not you're in this stage in your life where you're ready to have a family, you may dream of a baby. It might be small, crying or starving.
Meaning: At its core, a baby signifies purity and vulnerability. If the baby is starving, it may mean that you feel dependent on others. A crying baby could be a sign that your goals are unfulfilled and that you need other people's attention. Should you see an extremely small baby, it's an indication that you're afraid people will learn about your incompetence and vulnerabilities.
Baseball
America's favorite pastime is a delight in waking life but is it the same in dreams? You may dream that you're playing baseball, that you're watching a game, or witnessing the construction of a baseball field.
Meaning: Firstly, you don't want to see a baseball diamond being built because this can refer to unsettled sexual inadequacies. If you're playing the game, it may mean that you've been fooling around too much and now it's time to set goals for yourself. Finally, watching a baseball game could signify that you're at peace with yourself.
Castration
Talk about a man's worst nightmare! It's a possibility that you have a vision of your testicles being chopped off.
Meaning: Obviously, this isn't a good thing. It may indicate that you feel you're not as virile as you used to be and feel sexually pressured. It can also symbolize a lack of creativity.
Deaf
It can be frightening to dream that you can't hear anything or that someone else you know is deaf.
Meaning: To be deaf in your dream can signify that you feel isolated from the world, that you may have secluded yourself from new experiences. However, if the person who is deaf is someone else, it may mean that you feel that someone close to you is feeling withdrawn.
Eating
Our lives often center around food and so it might not be a surprise to see yourself chowing down, whether in a group or by yourself.
Meaning: To eat with other people may indicate that you're in high spirits and that your projects are going well. If you're eating alone, it could mean that you're lonely and depressed. Eating too much or too little may be a sign that you lack spirituality in your life. And if someone takes away your food before you're done eating, it could mean that you have problems with people who depend on you.
Erection
No matter what the situation is, it is possible to see yourself sporting a comfortable erection.
Meaning: Not only is this a symbol of fertility, but it also refers to feelings of great creative power and energy. You should take this opportunity to take action.
Flirtation
Being a man's man, this is the kind of dream you've been waiting for. You may see yourself flirting with a woman or being flirted with.
Meaning: Whatever the situation, it may indicate that you crave affection and intimacy. In the near future, there may be a need for you to enter into a serious relationship.
Hospital
It can be frightening to dream about a hospital, no matter if you're visiting it or being admitted.
Meaning: This may indicate that you feel like you're ready to heal, or improve your mental and physical health. It's a sign that you should return to the flow of everyday life.
Laughing
Whether you've seen something funny or not is irrelevant. You may see yourself laughing like crazy or hearing other people laughing.
Meaning: Should you have a vision of children laughing with glee, it could symbolize that you're feeling joyful and in vital health. If you're hearing evil laughter, it could mean that you're feeling helpless and humiliated. To see yourself laughing could be an indication that you put too much pressure on yourself and that you should lighten up.
Party
It's not uncommon to dream about attending a party, regardless of whether it's lame or totally happening.
Meaning: Of course, at first sight, a party could symbolize pleasure and celebration. But it may also suggest that you should get out more often and enjoy yourself. If the get-together is less entertaining than your last Chuck E. Cheese birthday bash, it means that you're uncertain about your social skills.
Restaurant
Hungry or not, you may dream that you're in a restaurant with a menu in your hands and people around you.
Meaning: On the one hand, this could mean that you're looking for emotional nourishment outside of your regular social circles. But on the other hand, being in a restaurant may symbolize that you're feeling beleaguered by all the choices and decisions you have to make in your daily life.
School
There's a chance that you may dream about being in school even if it's been years since you've graduated.
Meaning: Dreaming of being in school could relate to inadequacies and insecurities that you had as a child and with which you never dealt. It may also be a sign that you're currently going through some spiritual learning. It's normal to dream about school if you're still in school because it reflects upon your waking life.
Trial
Even if you're not an attorney or currently in the middle of legal procedures, you may spend your nights dreaming that you're on trial.
Meaning: This dream reflects both conflict and resolution. It could symbolize that you're too judgmental and that you should accept yourself more and criticize others less.
Tunnel
Given the numerous metaphors we have in our language for tunnels, you may dream that you see or are going through a tunnel.
Meaning: Seeing a tunnel suggests a vagina, the womb and birth in general. It represents your need for security. If you go through the tunnel, it may suggest that you're exploring your own unconscious mind and are becoming aware of a new part of yourself. Should you see a light at the end of the tunnel, it could be a sign of hope.
Twins
Although this may be a fantasy of many men, it's not exceptional to dream about twins, whether one of them is another "you" or they are complete strangers.
Meaning: From the start, twins symbolize duality and opposition, as well as security in business and faithfulness. You're in harmony with life. If you see twins fighting, it could mean that there's a situation you're not confronting because they may represent your conscious and unconscious mind.
Vomiting
This is as distasteful in dreams as it is in real life, but you may find yourself vomiting or see others doing so.
Meaning: If the one blowing chunks is you, it could indicate that there's a repugnant part of your life that you need to reject. But if you see other people vomiting, it could mean that you know there are people around you using false pretenses to take advantage of you.
dream trivia
Frequent dreaming is known to decrease stress and enhance creativity.
Drugs, alcohol, caffeine, and spicy foods consumed before bedtime can trouble your sleep and trigger dreams.
Because your ears are never turned off, the real-life sounds you hear, no matter how faint they are, may be incorporated into your dream.
You may talk out loud while you dream, usually during a lucid dream or a light dream that doesn't occur during the REM phase.
Waking up several times during the night will increase your chances of remembering your dreams.
dream on...
As you can see, there are many different dreams and many different interpretations for each one. The key is to evaluate where you currently are in your life, to see how the dream can be applied to your specific situation.
If you're thorough in your analysis, you'll get a much better understanding of yourself and possibly even map out a brighter future.
