Finished Grad School Last Year ... Want Recruit Advice

Post by NorthDakotaKid »

I finsihed up Business School Last year (class 04'). I went through all the Navy PT Tests and passed with Above Averages, but my then fiance' wanted me to remain a civilian until she finished grad school (class 06'), and with family being very important I decided not to continue the recruitment process.

I took a civilian job as a state bank examiner but decided I was not meant to share a desk with my as&. I had a good high school friend who became a ranger tell me that it was allot more family friendly, in hid honest opinion, than a Naval career would be.

I am looking to answer these questions:

Where would I start as a graduate student rank wise?
- I ask this because with no tution assistance coming to officers, I need to know where I stand financially

How family friendly can the Army be?
- bases for Rangers locations, facilities

What is the commitment for an officer?

Is it more advantageous to enlist, if so where would I generally start as rank?

I know that these are very vague questions considering you know nothing about me beyond having an MBA, but I am looking for a reference point to set my compass to.

Thank you and in advance I thank you for you direction and comments.

I am 26 and live in North Dakota. I completed my MBA in 2004, I currently work for a 5 year old internet company as an operations analyst.

I passed on the Navy out of grad school after competing the PT test with above average scores, but due to the delay of my fiance's graduation, which will occur in 2006, I chose to not continue the process.

I am interested in becoming a Ranger and know that the offiicer billets are very competitive. Physically I would like to think that with more trianing I could achieve above average marks, I competed in college football as a linebacker, so I would consider myself athletic.

I was informed by a fellow peer of mine from high school who had become a Ranger that the Army was a much more family friendly military than the Navy.

I am interested in knowing what, from your experiences, makes a better officer. Enlisted or OCS. I know that some believe that through tthe ranks of enlistment that you gainh an understanding of the specific parts of your squad, but as an officer you recieve better leadership training. Understanding that I have had allot of schooling and would like to put it to the best use, functionally please speak your minds.
Your opinions are appreciated.

I am not here for the college money. I already have sunk in the cost for my own education. I know that this is a huge F8ck you in this community, I footed my own bill and I am not inquiring into how much money I get out of it. Ao please, I am not trying to insult anyone here.
