A curl bar that looks like this _____/-------\______?
Or should I go out and buy a straight bar?

Think about it...Would it change the mechanics of the exercise?

Looks like that bar would lower the center of gravity AND be more stable,
therefore NO, I would say go for the akward more difficult bar.
You get the excersise and more, because you're fighting to keep it balanced.

Or you could go to Mc Donalds and get a "hottie" from there to jump on your back and try to squat her

I am assuming that you are not a member of a gym and hence your question is about cost savings. BTW, it's called a 'cambered' bar.

My hypothesis is that there is NO difference whether you squat with a straight bar or a 'cambered' bar except that your physiological center of gravity is lower and may make you more stable.

I'll attempt to explain my reasoning by invoking/remembering Newtons 2nd law:

force = mass times acceleration or F = ma

In your case, since both mass and acceleration are constant, then the force must be constant as well and you are only varying the height. This has no effect on the amount of work performed because the two terms remain constant at any height.

So, Table of Elements Skater, I must ask you a question.

Aren't you in High School and haven't you heard this before? If so, I suggest that you apply Angry's 1st law and that is if you aren't smart enough to use your thinking cap, then you will need to have a strong back.

Do pushups....

Seriously, be safe and use a back belt and a spotter.

The camber bar or buffalo bar is typically used in heavy weighted good mornings for balance. Its not the same as an EZ curl bar, which is much smaller than a buffalo bar and obviously used in isolation movements and not core movements. Typically if it aint broke don't fix it.. Squat with a regular barbell live everybody else and consult a licensed trainer for use in equipment you don't know anything about. Hope this helped out some
