You'll notice that from time to time I will dig a hole for the simple pleasure of watching someone fall into it.Ops NCO wrote:I didn't. Neither that thread nor this one discussed jump school as an "elite" school, or implied that standards in other units were as high as those in the Regiment. The discussion is about whether initial entry requirements and training are being lowered below their already pretty low standards. Are you saying only Rangers have earned the right to discuss this issue?

I also noticed that once you went on hair growth status, the time you have to waste is impressive.Silverback wrote:You'll notice that from time to time I will dig a hole for the simple pleasure of watching someone fall into it.Ops NCO wrote:I didn't. I'm not the way I am because I was a Ranger - I was a Ranger because of the way I am.

I wish this topic would get on track. I'm curious if this is actually an issue or just "news" material. The %'s don't seem that far apart for soldiers that have needed waivers for criminal activity and those who have not, for stat counters like UCMJ, awards, re-enlistment, etc.

I think you put to much faith in the media reports.BruteForce wrote:What I find interesting is that in parallel to this article are others that indicate how gang-bangers are joining the Army to acquire marksmanship training and recruit internally (from within the Army).
Seems that after these thugs complete their obligation, they go back to wherever they came from and proficiently cross-train the other gang-bangers in marksmanship, automatic weapons use, etc.
I saw a story on Dateline where they also get a position in S4 (Supply) and start stealing/selling Army equipment (weapons, clothing, etc.).
Although I understand the requirement to fill the ranks, lowering standards may not be the appropriate method..
The Army was, is and will always be a microcosm of society. There will be supply guys who steal, combat leaders who abuse what they learn, sex offenders, rapists, thugs and thieves who embarass all of us.
As for lowering the standards, I don't know about all that, my son tried to enlist, he has some misdemeanor blemishes and a repaired ACL. According to his recruiter, " he needs too many waivers, today's Army does not rehabilitate".
For those that got in due to a lower standard, more power to them, I hope they continue to serve with honor and distiction.
