Just checking in

Post by Twillie »

New to the board, and feeling my way around. I was in 1 st Bn. in 79 to 82. A co. I did my rip on HAAF. Ranger School 7-80. And partying on river street on the weekends. I went back to Savannaha a few years ago and was shocked to see all the old bars on river street were antique shops now.. So where do all the boze hounds go now. Trying to find some of the old men from my day. I heard that Sgt. Batalona passed away, but don't know when or how, any info would be appreciated. Also last I heare 1st Sgt Fox was retired and living in Savannaha.

So let me hear if you have any info.

Ranger Alford:

Welcome to our site - your site now too, brother. I have bad news for you and it sucks to find out this way, if you didn't know already.

Wes Batalona didn't just pass away, but was one of the private military contractors who were killed in Fallujah this spring and who's bodies were hung from that steel girder bridge. I don't like being the one to tell you in this way, if you didn't already know. I found out somewhat the same way about Matt Rierson dying in Mogadishu, as his death was not associated as a loss from the battle, it was sort of hidden away for some time as a separate incident and I didn't learn of it until Bowden wrote his 'blackhawk down' piece for the Philly Inquirer.

My condolences to you.

You served with Israel I saw. I remember him. He was a newby, good guy as I recall.
