Would Zero-Pain be beneficial for a Soldier/Ranger?

Post by NoMoreRegrets »

Interesting story about a girl's condition where she feels absolutely no pain...

It got me to thinking... would that be beneficial or not? For instance, if they could make a pill to duplicate the effects of this disorder for a period of time, would it be a good idea for a Soldier to take the pill? The up-sides are obvious, but the down-side is that he may damage himself so much while on the pill that he just ends up killing himself.

That said, I will not lie, I wish I could get one of those pills before PT sometimes...

No it wouldn't help. The pain is what makes you mentally tough.

God has selected the female of our species to have babies. Since that has happened man suffers pain just to become a Ranger. It all balances out. Men can't handle the pain of having babies and Women can't handle the pain of being Ranger's. 8)

You know, having given this much thought....

Those of you who know me well know of my illness and know of the pain it causes. That said, I do use some pain medication. Recently, I was my med's were upgraded from what I was taking to morphine. And this was something I have been fighting for some time. I have no love for the pain, no use for it what-so-ever, nor am I any type of sadist. But my reality is that I want to be alert and oriented as much as I am able for as long as I am able. I pain free pill regardless of what anyone says distorts reality and no matter what the circumstance, I cannot think that at any time in my life I would want that. Further, I've been on a relentless battle with the Doc's to go back to my old med's to regain the cognative abilities I had just weeks ago...

Now, there certainly are other views on the topic and I am sure merits to other arguments. But I sincerely cannot imagine for me wanting to go into any situation with any less than the utmost capabilities that I had when I was at my best. I do think that most soldiers would feel that way.

Just my .02 worth.

Godspeed,

If you could not feel pain, by what means would you measure weakness leaving your body?

Fuck Pain...I didnt like it the first time I felt it, dont like it now. Fuckin "A" skippy Id take that pill.
A wize old Ranger went fishing with me and we were in the East Bay of Matagorda. Waves were pretty impressive, the boat was hitting about the water every 30 feet. The wize old Ranger was in the front and was taking a pretty good soaking...in fact we both were. Next time he showed up to fish he had been shopping, he had heavy duty rain gear, sweats...he wasnt doing that cold and wet thing again voluntarily. Cold and wet is pain. he minimized the anquish......smart Ranger. Aint that right, Ranger Bell? 8)

I'm not the way I am because I was a Ranger - I was a Ranger because of the way I am.
