Leg Intro

Post by ManchuLeg »

Hello Rangers & fellow veterans...

I've been lurking on this site for a week or so now, reading threads, I have really enjoyed what everyone has to say.
My MOS was 11B, light infantry. I went to OSUT at Fort Benning with a cohort unit for the 7th Infantry Division at Fort Ord. I was initially assigned to 4th Bn, 21st Infantry, when the division got deactivated I volunteered to move to 1st Bn, 9th Infantry and we moved to Fort Lewis. We were about a block up from the 2/75 barracks, we got a few Rangers that left 2nd Bn for whatever reasons, I never asked why. What I do know is that the Rangers we got were incredible soldiers and I learned a ton from them. While enlisted I was deployed to JOTC and NTC, but never to an actual combat zone.

Thank you to all the Rangers and veterans who are currently making that sacrifice or have in the past.

Welcome aboard ManchuLeg. As we never had post duties in 2/75 - what did that consist of for your unit? Was it really all that bad and did it detract from training?

Ranger Spartan,

I actually never had post duties at Fort Lewis either, I know a couple of guys in the other companies that did funeral details but nothing at C co.

We didn't maintain the same level of readiness as 2/75 (obviously), but we did spend quite a bit of time in the field. Between trips to JOTC, NTC, and Yakima, we weren't ever really picked on for post duty.

We did have Post Duties while I was at Ft Ord though which mostly consisted of Gate Duty. Basically just standing on a box, waving through cars that a had sticker, stopping those who didn't and sending them to the guest center, making sure to salute officer stickers. It wasn't that bad really, just made days drag on a bit. Funny stuff happened though every now and then, our XO would blow through the gate laughing and then smoke whoever was standing there for not stopping him

Didn't really detract from training though, they made sure and rotate the responsibilities enough.
