Grounds for DQ?
Grounds for DQ?
I recieved three minor in possessions of alcohol in the span of a year. At the third court date, the judge sent me to a drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic for two weeks, in lieu of jail. I have completley turned my life around since these incidents. I tried searching through the army reg's about enlisting with prior stays in rehab, but could not find any thing specifically retaining to the Rangers and a secret clearance. I called my recruiter and he was unable to give me a clear answer. Would the combination of the three misdemeanor charges and a stay in a rehab center be grounds to be denied an option 40 contract and/or a secret clearance? I know it seems slim but do I still have an opportunity or have I lost it?
what the hell possessed you to get caught a second OR EVEN THIRD TIME?
ANYHOO...
your inpatient stay alone is ground for a phsycological eval. Meaning possible DQ.
the charges 3 MIDEMEANORS, and i'll double tap that, mean you will need a waiver to get into the Army. refer to my prequal post.
what was the final disposition of the charges after you stay in rehab?
those answers will all make a difference when you try to process.
personal opinion: I would just be happy to get in, anything else is gravy.

I dont know what possessed me to do that shit. Like I said, I've completley turned my life around. I attend AA meetings, I've ditched friends who I used to hang out with, and have faced the question of whether or not I have a drinking problem. I realize that a Ranger contract is probably out of reach. SFC Hit It, what do you think my chances for an airborne contract would be? As of right now, all three charges still stand and will be on my record. However, as part of my sentencing I'm in the "drug therapy court" so I meet with my judge every other week and could bring up my situation and see what he could/would do. The stay in rehab was court ordered but I dont think that will make a difference.

When I checked the army reg's I think I remember having to wait one year after a stay at a treatment center to be able to enlist. If thats the case it wont be a problem. This all happened this July and I got two years probation, but I've been talking with my judge/probation officer and they know that I want to join the military and have agreed to cut it down to one year as long as I stay out of trouble. As for the MIP's being on my record, I'm not sure what I can do about that but can talk to the judge. Thank you SFC hit_it.
