Intro - Morris9510
Hello all, my name is Morris and I am a 17 year old Senior in HS. I went to meps last week and was unable to get a 11x option 40, or a 11x due to no slots being available. I chose 25N option 40 instead and was told by my recruiter that when a slot opens he will renegotiate my contract.
My shipdate is currently 20180526.

Hey Morris!
Welcome to ArmyRanger.com. Since you were already able to obtain a Ranger contract it's a great thing that you found us. I wish you would have posted here before you got an OPT40 so we could have talked you through the process. But no worries, what is done is done, and you have your OPT40 which is great.
Ensure you read all the stickies and FAQs before posting any questions or additional topics. The search feature on this site works well for keywords and Google is still a great tool. Ask us an informed question over wanting to have your hand held.
You only have a few months to prepare so use it wisely. Please post a self-assessed APFT on your next reply. If you are unable to do this let me know. I have also sent you a PM which requires a reply.
Tell us a bit more about yourself when you post your APFT scores. Play any sports? Working a job? Why did you want to get an OPT40 contract instead of prioritizing a specific MOS?

Re: Intro - Morris9510
I have completed my APFT Ranger Disinfertention. I have played soccer since the age of 10. I am debating quitting this season so i can gain weight as i have been weightlifting pretty hard to get stronger. I will join the track team when the season starts in a month or so. I do not have a job as i am focused on school and getting fit. I wanted a option 40 because the rangers are the best of the best and i wish to challenge myself to become one of the of the best.
APFT scores
Pushups - 84
Situps - 45
2 mile - 10:45
I don’t know if im doing my situps with bad form as i never do them or just from being tired. I will start doing them regularly to improve my score.

Re: Intro - Morris9510
Hey Morris - those are good scores. The APFT is a pretty old three event system and the sit ups are literally painful on most of us too. Your sit ups are pretty low. I would say just try to practice doing them, like you said, and you should have some improvement. There are a few different ways to do them to maximize your efforts. I would research it a bit yourself if you are interested and see what you can find on that. Also make sure you are taking 10 minutes between events as that is what you can expect when you get to take one. Add chin-ups to your APFT scores. You can do them separately to get your numbers up there but normally they will be done as an additional event after the 2 mile run. Ensure you are doing chin-ups and not pull-ups for the self test.
I played soccer growing up as well. Wish I got to play it more as an adult but I only played in a couple leagues and haven't done so again for years...
Couple of notes - Pay attention to your grammar here and always capitalize Ranger. Technology being what it is we all make mistakes with it but attention to detail is a cornerstone of not just becoming a Ranger but also being successful in the military as a whole.

Roger Ranger Disinfertention. I have a pull up bar in my room and i have completed that portion of the APFT.
Close grip chin ups- 10
I am sore from working out earlier so at the end of this week i will test my self again to verify my scores. Also Ranger Disinfertention, I have looked for the mentoring zone but still cannot find it.

Roger IntelToad. I am awaiting access to the mentees section, but have been researching threads about signal/commo duties in the regiment. I may end up liking the job and stick with it.

I will be creating a tasklist this week. I have been doubting my decision to pick this MOS as I really desire a combat job.

Re: Intro - Morris9510
If you really want a combat MOS you need to speak up sooner rather than later to your recruiter. The bad news is that they already roped you into a different MOS with the "promise" to renegotiate your contract later. Be prepared to be blown off. I'd also research it yourself so they cannot feed you a line of crap. After you look it up if you have questions we'll see if we can fill in some blanks for you. You put the ball in their court by signing a contract. Not to make you feel bad but now you are going to have to play their game a bit.Morris9510 wrote: ↑February 7th, 2018, 5:12 pm I will be creating a tasklist this week.
