Advice for Dep's...pay attention!!!

Post by the_machine »

I'm sure that a lot of these issues have been addressed at one time or another, but I decied to have it all in one cohesive post.

I've noticed a lot of deppers are shipping out this month and since I'm prior service as well as getting ready to ship on the 29th, I figured that I try to impart some hard earned knowledge and if anyone has anything to add, please do so.

A. Don't bring anything that might be construed as contraband, you don't need the cd player, watch, cell phone or pager...you won't need it pure and simple. Your'e better off like Ranger Spartan mentioned and picking up a cheap Timex watch for Basic.

B. Keep your shit locked up as if you leave anything unsecured, it'll dissapear. This especially holds true when you're still at Reception.

C.Don't hang out with those whiny assholes who do nothing but bitch and don't do their job. Stick with the troops who are switched on and you'll do allright.

D. Don't fuck over your squad-mates or the rest of your platoon.Attrition will take care of the problem cases and the last thing you want is to be labeled as someone who won't pull their weight. It's a small military and your reputation will preceed you.

E. When you get to your duty station, be wary around the locals. There are people who sole purpose is to separate you from your money and the last thing you need is to fuck yourself over buying shit you don't need. All this will do is drain your wallet dry and if you screw up your checking account, will have you on the receiving end of the UCMJ and speaking from experience, this is NOT where you want to be.

F. Stay the hell away from the strippers!!!...nuff said. Last thing you need is to catch something.

G. Put your $$ into an I.R.A. account or somewhere usefull. I can't stress this enough...be smart with your $$

H. Make use of resources on post like the education center, this will only benefit you in the end.

I. Keep in mind that for every trigger puller out there, there are roughly seven tropps working behind the scenes to support them. When you get to your duty station be it the Rgt or whatever, give these people a thanks or a nice job as they work damn hard to make us look good.

I'm doing this for your benefit guys, your'e getting ready to do something great, don't fuck it up!!!

If anyone has a question or anything, pm me or shoot me an email.

Looks like all good advice, but I'd definitely bring a good basic Casio or Timex watch if you have one. If you have a rolex, or other expensive type watches, I'd recommend leaving it at home.
