Rangers,
At the behest of Ranger Jim, I am posting a SITREP of the past few years.
First, here's a link to my original Introduction thread: viewtopic.php?f=172&t=35354&p=446848#p446848
Since then, it's been as wild a ride as an accountant can have. After being in a bad marriage for 20 years, I finally tapped out almost 2 years ago. My sons, age 15 and 12 (both with social development issues) are doing very well. I still volunteer as an assistant coach for the Varsity soccer team here in town, and still work with kids in our rec league soccer program too. The ball is just a tool to teach. The real thing we are teaching is character, work ethic and teamwork.
We have been blessed to open up two more CPA offices in our county. Tax season was busy before. It's even busier now. I've gone more from working for myself to having to lead three separate teams in three separate locations. Not complaining. I love it.
I had to take leave from the Virginia Defense Force for just a bit so I could get my head and life back together. But, I am reentering that service this summer. I miss it. For us old people, state defense forces are another great way to help our Commonwealth.
I want to thank all of you for keeping this site going. I know it's primarily for helping our future Rangers get prepared, but the wisdom and stories you all share here help us civilians to get ourselves together too.
Thanks for letting me visit and lurk.

Reintroduction - Bandy
"My religious convictions teach me to feel as safe in battle as if I were safe asleep in bed. The time of my death is fixed. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready no matter when it may overtake me. That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave." - General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson
Re: Reintroduction - Bandy
Welcome back Bandy. One of my favorite singers is Moe Bandy. My son is named Bandy after the song, "Bandy The Rodeo Clown", because I was a Rodeo Clown for several years.
Drop your ruck, pull up a seat and tell us more about yourself. Do you have to go through training, like basic, to join the Virginia Defense Force?

Re: Reintroduction - Bandy
Thanks for the warm welcome, Ranger rangerjd. We only had to do 3 days of basic training if we were nonprior service...mainly to teach us military customs and courtesies, teach us how to get squared away, and to start working as a team. We have nonpriors like me but also veterans who have served for years, retired, and now share their knowledge with us.
Moe Bandy was amazing. Not related to him though unfortunately.
