Nic, that post I told you to read is not open to you at this time, my mistake. As you continue on this site there will come a time when you will be able to read it. Until then, Don't quit, keep driving on. Increase your pushups, pullups, situps and run. Never be satisfied with what you just did, but always strive to do better next time. RLTW

My pushups are really bad, I know. And if I tried I could get under 13 minutes on my 2 mile run.
You're doing well Nick, but I'll give you a little advice.......ALWAYS TRY YOUR HARDEST! If you aren't giving your all then you're shortchanging yourself.

Understood Ranger Slowpoke. Should I go all out until I can't go anymore?

Roger Ranger rangerjd, I was searching everywhere for that thread but I couldn't find it. I was going to ask for a link, good to know that I will eventually be able to read it.

I have a question to you Rangers. My goal is to become a Ranger, but ROTC will not allow me to enter the Rangers immediately. Should I go through college and then enlist with an option 40 while taking the first two years of ROTC? My dream is to be a Ranger, and I want to have the surest way into the Regiment.

This issue has been discussed in detail in the past. Before asking this question, try the search feature, and see what you can learn. Then, you may want to restate your question. Never, never quit!

It's not a matter of ''going all out until I can't go anymore'', it's giving EVERY task your best. When you said your run time could have been in the 12's ''IF I'D TRIED I thought you could use some advice. To quote my young friend Master Yoda; Do or do not. To try only is to fail. In every task in your life, whether as a Ranger hopeful or not, whatever you do should be your best effort, win or lose.

I suggest you re-administer the APFT with doing your best foremost in your mind, then you will have a TRUE baseline from which to begin your training.

Update: I have re-administered the APFT and these are my numbers

Pushups: 41
Situps: 88
Pull Ups: 5
2 mile run: 12:59

I went all out and just got under 13 minutes on the run. Thank you to Ranger Slowpoke for advising me to re-administer the PT. I did better on everything and now know my real starting point.

That's some good advice from Ranger Slowpoke, heed it in everything you do. Memorize the Ranger Creed, then begin to live it. You will be surprised at the difference it makes in your life when you start to live by the Creed. Keep training, strive to get better at everything you do, not just PT or military related. Study harder at school, get better grades, work harder if you have a job, if not, work harder at home. People should notice a difference. A Ranger always stands out no matter what he does, not because he's a show off, but because he gives everything he has, every time. Never quit. RLTW
