Soldier dies during Airborne Training at Fryar Drop Zone

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) -
Fort Benning officials confirm that Airborne student Mario Jekov, 19, has died in a parachute training accident on Oct. 1 at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Fryar Drop Zone.

The accident occurred during the third week of Airborne School.

Jekov was immediately evacuated by Life Flight to Columbus Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

The accident is under investigation, and no further information is available at this time.

Why didn't he go to Bennings Hospital? Not that it would have made a difference. One of the few things Army Hospitals seem to do well is Trauma.

Armytimes is reporting another paratrooper drifted under his shoot and stole his air, resulting in a "fall between 120 and 150 feet."

RIP.

Unfortunately, you are probably right. The young man may have been so injured that he would have succumbed to his wounds no matter what. The rule of thumb we go by is a potentially fatal fall being more than three times a persons height.

Also, MACH/ER is not a level 1 trauma center. Columbus is.

That is a masive fucking oversight the Army needs to fix. You want to get on the good side of the locals? Have the Army provide assistance to the community.

AAFES has already adjusted prices so they don't piss off the townies, maybe they can do something positive that will support the community w/o fucking Joe.

AAFES has already adjusted prices so they don't piss off the townies, maybe they can do something positive that will support the community w/o fucking Joe.
The government shut-down has caused Fort Belvoir to close its Commissary. AAFES remains open.
