SITREP- Elgecko
Before I leave for BCT in the next couple days, I would like to thank all the Rangers who have provided so much information and guidance on this site, it has helped me get my head in the right place as I embark on my journey to becoming a Ranger.
I will post regular sitreps along the way and I will not quit.

Re: SITREP- Elgecko
Thank you Rangers for your support.
I fly out to Fort Jackson tomorrow and since I'm just sitting here at the hotel I thought I'd repeat something that has already been mentioned before. It is very easy to see who is serious about their job and who isn't. I have not even seen a Drill Sergeant yet so I can only imagine what the learning curve will be like for some of these guys (and girls). One of my first priorities when I get to Ft. Jackson is to find the other Ranger candidates and determine who is really serious about becoming a Ranger.
More information to follow upon BCT graduation.

I'm late to this party, but hey, war is hell.
Good luck stud. Never forget your purpose; you want to do better than the man to your left and right. Refuse to abide shit-bags right from the very start. A wise man once said, "I'm not the way I am because I was a Ranger. I was a Ranger because I am the way I am." Take those words to heart; strive to live them.

Re: SITREP- Elgecko
Rangers, thanks to your help I showed up to BCT much better prepared than my counterparts. I don't just mean physically, either. I was really hoping our platoon would be cut from 60 to around 25 Soldiers because that's as many as I could honestly say I trusted with my life should I find myself in a combat situation with them. Fortunately, I was able to connect with a few Soldiers who were mature and focused. I can say I enjoyed BCT because I got experience in new areas but it was very draining emotionally. I was appointed the student 1SG so I saw the best and worst of my fellow soldiers. Now I'm prepping for AIT and it's a continuation of the same. Even though I had been warned about it, I went to BCT thinking everyone was there for the right reasons and wanted to be the best Soldier possible.
I did really well on the academic and PT side of things. I never failed a test, was selected as the platoon honor soldier and scored 290 on my final AFPT (75/75/11:00). I struggled mightily with BRM, though, only scoring a 23 on my qualification. During subsequent ranges I started shooting much better so I think I'm getting my trigger squeeze under control. I'm planning on doing ruckmarches on the weekends so that I can improve my rucking time; I want to be well under 3 hours.
Tips for DEPS: GET IN SHAPE BEFORE SHIPPING. BCT was much easier for me because I could already do advanced levels of PT. Also, start challenging your self-discipline now. BCT is full of seemingly ridiculous rules and policies but most are there to build your self-control. I'm not saying you need to practice standing at attention for hours (that will come at BCT), but give yourself a goal and then hold yourself accountable. All of the integrity violations I saw were because the Soldier couldn't maintain self-discipline.
Lastly, I'm currently trying to reclass. Now that I've seen a little more of the Army I want a job that will be more challenging for me. I jumped at 92G because of the Opt 40 and I'm not going to do anything that will cost me my chance at being with the 75th Ranger Regiment. That said, I'm hoping that since the Army already has too many cooks I can fill a job that is not so overstaffed. I have the Ranger recruiters number and will be calling tomorrow to see what my options are.
