Yes, it sure in the fuck is. Seriously, you should wait a few years and not rush into it just cause you are away from home for the first time in your life and there is no one around to give you a hug every day.

Brought up another good point.

DEPs, if a woman with 3 kids suddenly falls in love with you at first sight, question it very well. I've seen a few guys who are like 18 or 19 fall for it and say "oh yea, its true love. this 30 year old with 3 kids and no dad really loves me for me and not my stable income". Don't be a fool, a lot of women want you for your paycheck to feed their kids mouths and not you.

Then you have the wonderful "paper marriages". Seriously, if you want the extra money, prove yourself in your unit and go up in rank quicker. Marrying some dumb bitch for a few hundred extra a month is not worth it.

I knew of a white boy from rural Iowa who married a black gril from Columbus whom he had just meet. The boys family called the CO and raised hell. The CO raised hell cause the boy didn't seek permission to marry and then a couple months later the "wife" was caught selling her pudding in the 30 AG holdover barracks. Stay away from the enlisted housing area too! Talk about a young stud getting raped by a bunch of horny housewives. You want be laughing when your CO reads you your rights.

Marrying some smart bitch for a few hundered extra a month is not worth it either!

As a side bar a Ranger during my time married his Squad leaders girl friend so they could get a few extra bucks a month. We had the wedding and reception off post. Kind off funny seeing the bride making out with someone other than the groom! :D

All you pretty boys out there.

I am an ugly sum o' bitch so when I arrived at Battalion I had no expectations of getting pussy for like the next four years. Others though were pretty in their former lives and here is the story of one: "Tommy"

Tommy was an actor and model before he joined the Army. I did not believe him because everyone says they are before they join the "GREENNNNN MACHINEEEE" . Well Tommy could prove it and acting is all he did in the Army from day1

Basic: With half a brain anyone can make it especially at leonard wood.
AIT: Hooked up with a chick who he cheated off of on exams.
Airborne: By God you gotta earn it here, especially in July. and Tommie faltered and failed!!
RIP: Talked the talk but RIP don't take legs.

Well Tommy starts going out to Strip Clubs when he washes out of Jump School. He thinks that these Bitches like him because the women at home thought he was pretty. Gets all wound up over thier bullshit, gives them all his money, takes thier dope and I find him AWOL after I get to Batt. down at some Dive motel on Victory Drive with a 16 yr. old runnaway chick, booze all over the place, weed and shit everywhere too.

So listen, here is the lesson:

1. Stay out of the fuckin strip joints or at least go with guys in your unit who have been around a while and know that these bitches are just that.

2. You ain't fuckin' pretty anymore and you sure as shit ain't rich.

3. Stay out of the various stores on Victory Drive that sell over priced gear, Bullshit loans, fucked up cars, fucked up women, and evything else fucked.

4. If you need gear order it over the internet, apply for loans over the internet (under adult supervision) IE: NCO's. and just do as little business as possible around town.

Listen, "sutlers" like the ones around Columbus, GA. have been around the Army since the Civil War days, they are going to be around now, and 50 years from now. Stay away from them and use common sense. If it is just too good to be true than it goddam is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doc Cook

PS: Just thank god you ain't there when my Grandfather was. They were finded GI's floating dead in the Chatahooch monday morning from all the card houses, whore houses, and mafioso killer loan houses in Pheonix city and other notorious parts of inner Columbus.

I look forward to buying some personal CD's once I graduate college and have the funds available. The profit you can make off those is microscopic (less than 2% interest), but just the principle that I am making money, no matter how little, is enough motivation to tie up some money in savings for a couple of years.

Aaron-- you may want to look into a money market savings account.

If you're concerned about being able to pull money out, set it up as a joint account with a relative you trust where BOTH signers are required to withdraw money. You'll DEFINITELY get a higher interest rate.

If you are serious about wanting to save you may want to find a good financial planner. Some MAY offer free or inexpensive consultations. CDs are a no risk VERY low gain way to save money...

(I was thinking the same thing as you and a classmate who works in finance told me what I am now telling you)

I was wondering, what did everyone do with there bonus' that they recieved. If they recieved a bonus that is.

I was just thinking of throwing it into an IRA/Mutual Fund/Savings Account. After reading this thread it helped me figure out some things dealing with the paychecks you recieve in the military.

Thanks for taking the time and posting this stuff.

Noah, make your own thread. Do not hijack this one.

On that Saving info. Solid. In Vietnam I had $150 each month put into savings. When I got home I had $1500 saved up. I took a withdrawal once when I went to Japan for R & R. In a short time y'all can save money. It can be done.

Let's not give strippers all a bad name, just 99% of them. That one percent is normally the one you meet outside of the club. And you've never been to her work, nor will you.

I fucked a stripper for 8 months until she left the island. She stayed at the Hilton, I never paid for a damn thing. She took care of everything, she told me I was young and still not making that much money. Never once did she talk about "us"; of course she was also like 40 something so probably divorcee who just wanted to fuck.
