Gentlemen,
Let me begin by thanking those of you who have taken the time to read and respond to my introduction. Your attention is greately appreciated.
Second, I would like to pose my first question. I would like to make clear that I have made extensive use of the "Search" function before preparing this post, however, I still have been able to gleen only pieces of the overall puzzle. Therefore, I have decided to ask straight out. If I do this correctly, perhaps you at the top would see fit to sticky this post.
I stopped by to visit the recruiter in my area the other day. My objective was to gather some basic information regarding becoming a Ranger. Due to my college education, the gentleman I spoke with was eager to press me with OCS. However, as no gaurantee of RIP could be offered this route, I spoke of enlistment. The Sargeant I spoke with seemed to bristle at this, and was reluctant to speak extensively with me.
Therefore my question is this - When I next visit with the recruiter, what should I say exactly. That is, what should be the very words to come out of my mouth. I know to say "I want to be a Ranger. Period.", but what exactly should be my wording with respects to insuring that contract? I am, of course, familiar with the OPT 40. But in preparing my paperwork, what should I exactly look for? I suppose the overall gist of what I am requesting is a step by step plan from walking in the door to signing my contract. As I stated earlier, if I do this correctly, the answer you provide will be a step by step plan of action that will forever put an end to this and similar questions.
Thank you for your time and leadership.

A Visit with the Recruiter
I told my recruiter that I want to be airborne, infantry, after taking the AFQT and scoring 78, he asked me what I though of being a ranger.. I still have to test at MEPS, but my recruiter said to expect scoring 10 points higher.. he also said he is almost sure I can get a option 40.. I am going to take it if I can get it.. if not.. 82 airborne here I come.
Walk through the door. Introduce yourself. Then, look him in the eye and say this:
I want to enlist in the Army. I want to be MOS. I want an Option 40. I want to be an Airborne Ranger.
Everytime he says something negative, be firm and polite and repeat the above. If he says that no slots are available, then tell him that you can wait. Ask him when one should be available. Make arrangements to find out. Then get up and walk out.
Been telling these kids that for a couple of years now and they still fuck it up. Just go in there knowing what ya want. Be firm and courteous. Be a man.

CityOfChicago,
I live close by and work in Chicago. Let me know if you want someone to go back to the recruiter with you. I'll help set his poop straight.
