I'm not defending this guy, I know nothing about him except for the assed-up photo he posted, but many Rangers, from the Korean War era and up, are now wearing the Tan Beret to military functions as it is the current identifying beret of the Rangers. Most who have earned the Ranger Black Beret have retired it into history in an honored spot somewhere in their castle.reconman wrote:Gents at SOCNET are all over this guy..He was actually in a line company in the 173rd in VN, don't believe the Ranger stuff though.....why if yhou are nam era Ranger would wear a tan beret? I wouldn't..YMMV

Nor should he be wearing the Vietnamese Ranger Badge (BDQ).

Ranger Reconman, I understand what you're putting down. Both of those subjects have been discussed here with some fervor and varied opinions in the past.
You've got a helluva lot more time under that floppy hat than I do, just saying that Ive seen much older Rangers sporting the Tan now, so as not to be confused with the leg black beret.
Either way, to get back on subject, you are correct, this cat just doesn't look right. And who puts their rank on their beret, and also on their nametag?

In the 70s, Batt NCOs from SSG on up wore silver colored rank badges on their berets instead of the DUI.
They'd have to scratch the black paint off a lot of pins in order to find ones not made of brass. I don't know when they switched to the DUI. Anyone?
Anyway, this cat might be copying photos from that era, unless he was around to see it. He's also sporting a pre-regiment era flash so that match up would be correct for back then.
Not defending him, just making the observations.
Man, have they invented a weapon that he didn't quality 'expert' on?

Dress blues service stripes... 21 years ... E-6. Seems with all those medals they might have promoted him during that time.
